Bee Keeper’s Carrera: 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa – STILL $49,990

Oct 2020 | Classifinds, Sports Car Saturday

October 18th Update – Another year gone and we are not surprised to find this incredibly optimistic seller still trying to get $49,900, only this time he’s claiming the asking price is down from $59,900. Sorry buddy, we have the history you seem to have forgotten!

After unsuccessfully trying to sell their car for a “NEW!” (short for “No Effin Way!”) Award for an ungodly $69,990, the current Bee Keeper caretaker of a 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa just re-listed again here on Craigslist near Belmont, Massachusetts for a new asking price of $49,990.   Checking the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller now has his Targa priced about $1,00 below the current #2 “Excellent” estimate of $51,000.  If you are serious about buying this Porsche, you can start the conversation by calling Nick Baker at (617) 699-0533.

Porsche marked the 21st anniversary of its venerable 911 in 1984 with the launch of 3.2 Carrera designed to replace the SC.  Save for a new dashboard design with larger air conditioning vents in 1986, The 3.2 Carrera is almost indistinguishable from the SC with the biggest clue being the fog lights were now integrated into the valance panel underneath the front bumper. The big news for the “new” Carrera was its heavily revised 3.2 liter flat-six air-cooled engine that in addition to an improved timing chain tensioner system, driving refinement and reliability through an upgrade of the fuel and ignition components to Bosch’s L-Jetronic with a Motronics 2 DME (Digital Motor Electronics) system.  In the late eighties, emissions, noise, and safety regulations were starting to take its toll on the aging 911 design, so the 3.2 Carrera produced from 1984-1989 represents the last iteration of the original car.

The seller provides a decent walk-around video of their Targa below on YouTube.  Note the video still has the ridiculous asking price of nearly $70K back in November.

This Targa appears to be a nice low-mileage, no rust example in a great color combination.  While the seller claims “perfect paint” we can clearly see signs of chips on the mirrors and while the interior and exterior are nicely detailed, the engine bay appears to have never been cleaned, which leads us to believe the awards for the show the seller mentions didn’t judge that area.  Looking at his YouTube channel, it appears the seller tries to support his beekeeping hobby by flipping collector cars at ridiculous asking prices.  Consequently, when starting the negotiations, we’d ask him to provide proof of what he paid for the car and how long he’s owned it and then work from there.  Good luck with the purchase!
