Guys With Rides is pleased to offer our latest Reserved Parking addition: check out this Gelbgrun (German for yellow-green) over black leather 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa offered by the car’s caretaker for the past three years, Norm, for $42,000 firm in Flemington, New Jersey. Using the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a reference shows that Norm has his Targa accurately priced halfway between the #2 “Excellent” level of $55,000 and the #3 “Good” estimate of $37,000. This is also consistent with Excellence magazine’s ranges for mid-80’s 911s.
This 911 started life as a U.S. spec car until the second owner from Ottawa exported the car to Canada. Upon his purchase three years ago, Norm easily re-imported his 911 back in the states by driving it back. Since then he has legally registered and titled his Targa in New Jersey.
If you have your heart set on a 1980’s vintage Porsche 911 but want yours to stand out from the typical sea of Guards Red examples, then this may be the Porsche for you! We have witnessed first-hand on several occasions, at both Porsche Club of America and non-Marque events, how much of an attention-getter this Targa is where ever Norm drives it. Just two weeks ago, Norm’s 911 won the “Best Foreign Car” trophy at the annual Flemington Speedway Historical Society Car Show.
Originally black from the factory, the second owner elected to repaint this Targa ten years ago after seeing another Porsche in this shade. The stunning color is a well-executed, bare-metal repaint with almost no overspray found as the car received extensive undercoating following the application of the new paint as is common practice in Canada. The only easily noticeable evidence of a respray are the painted fender welt. While the ten-year-old paint still appears excellent with bright shine, the picture gallery does provide shots of the paint chips expected on the front clip.
Despite the stunning paint, Norm’s 911 isn’t just a pretty face. With only 114k original miles, this Targa is in excellent mechanical condition with an engine top-end rebuild completed in 2009 (at approximately 100K miles) and a transmission rebuild executed five years prior to that. In addition to the spreadsheet pictured, Norm can provide all of the detailed receipts to back it up. The engine in this Targa features SSI stainless steel exhaust headers, so while these do enhance the performance of the car, the trade-off is this Targa no longer has air conditioning the exhaust system does not have catalytic converters installed. Consequently, while now emissions exempt in most states including New Jersey, the seller notes his Targa will not pass California’s stricter emission standards.
If you are very serious about purchasing Norm’s car for the firm yet fair price of $42,000 you can contact him directly at (908) 295-5443. Good luck with the purchase!
