Nov 2020 | Reserved Parking, Sold Cars

November 21st Update – The seller of this low-mileage survivor Cadillac, Michael, just communicated that a buyer in France just purchased this black-over-tan beauty for $8,500.  This will be an interesting car to drive around France with that I’m sure the new owner will enjoy getting many comments.  Good luck with the purchase!

October 8th Update – We’re pleased to report Michael, the current caretaker of this 21K original mile 1980 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, just lowered his price from $10,900 to $8,500.  Checking the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool confirms Michael’s revised price now falls between the #2 “Very Good” estimate of $7,075 and the #1 “Excellent” appraisal of $11,150.  As a second price reference, A review of the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms Michael has his Coupe DeVille priced between the #3 “Good” estimate of $6,300 and the #2 “Excellent” estimate of  $12,700.

GuysWithRides.com is pleased to offer this 1980 Cadillac Coupe DeVille 21,000 original mile time capsule currently available for sale on Staten Island, New York.  Michael, the second caretaker of this Sable Black over Antique Saddle Leather, 368 cubic inch V8 equipped survivor, purchased the car from the Estate of the original owner in August 2018 and is now offering this stunning example for $8,500 or the best reasonable offer.

For 1980 Cadillac’s fifth generation DeVille line received a mid-cycle refresh following the major downsizing in 1977.  The refresh improved the proportions of the full-size traditional Cadillac by incorporating a lower, more aerodynamic nose, higher tail end, and a heavier, more substantial appearance. The Coupe de Ville now wore full, bright side window surround moldings.  The rear window glass for both two- and four-door models was now the same, as the two-door models did away with the sporty slanted rear window and adopted the formal vertical look shared with the sedans.  This example features the popular $350 Cabriolet option, which is in like-new condition.

The first thing we look for on 70’s and 80’s vintage Cadillacs is the condition of the bumper filler panels as the ABS material GM used at the time did not hold up well to UV exposure.  Despite the low mileage and little sun exposure, Michael notes that he replaced all of the pieces with the correct ABS rather than settle for inflexible fiberglass.  They appear to be in excellent, like new condition and properly fitted.  Black is arguably the easiest color to spot paint imperfections and we are impressed with the condition and straightness of the panels on this time capsule.  We love how the tan pin striping coordinates with the car’s interior.

In 1980 Cadillac replaced the 425 cubic inch V8 with its new L61 V8, which was the same basic 472 family engine using a smaller 3.8 inch bore combined the 472 and 425 engines’ 4.06 inch stroke for a total displacement of 368 cubic inches, or six liters.  The reduction in displacement was largely an effort to meet Corporate Average Fuel Economy (“CAFE”) requirements for fuel economy.   On rear-wheel-drive Cadillac’s such as this DeVille, 1980 was the final year for the engine to use a Rochester Quadrajet Four Barrel Carburetor.

The pictures below confirm an unmodified and well preserved engine compartment in this example.  A quick light cleaning to remove the winter’s dust is all that’s needed to have the engine ready for any show.

Trim code 603, Antique Saddle, was a stunning, timeless choice to compliment the black exterior.  The optional leather seating surfaces present and even smell like new.  We love this example came equipped the rare optional UM5 AM/FM/8-Track/CB combination Radio, which was a $480 option in 1980.  The original Cadillac 8-tracks supplied with the car can be found in the glove box and are included as part of the sale.

The optional carpeted floor mats appear to be in excellent condition and based on the pictures provided the carpet appears to be like new with no signs of fading present.  Interior defects are limited to some delamination of the saddle color on the steering column and the start of headliner sagging.  Michael notes that he is in the process of having the headliner repaired and t will be completed as part of the sale.

All of the trunk carpeting and factory supplied optional rubber trunk mat are in place along with the spare tire an jack components.

Shortly after purchasing his Coupe DeVille, he replaced aftermarket wire wheels with the correct steels wheels and standard full-size wheels covers the car originally came equipped with.  They appear to be in like-new condition with no scraping present.  The 3/4″ width whitewalls are period correct as manufacturers were moving away from offering the style by the early 1980s.

The undercarriage of the Coupe DeVille presents in like-new condition with only minor surface corrosion in the unprotected areas that came from the factory.
