Beige Bliss: 1953 MG TD Project – NOW $12,000
December 18th Update – We confirmed the seller of this MG TD we first featured just one week prior just reduced their asking price by $2,000 to $12,000.
If you’re still on the hunt for a winter project that has a high probability for you to have ready in time to drive in the spring, this 1953 MG TD we just came across here on Craigslist in New London, Connecticut might be just the ticket. Said to be all original and featuring a rebuilt power train for $14,000, this classic gives us a “some assembly required” vibe as the body and paint look to be only a detail away from being car show-ready. Checking the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool confirms the private seller has their TD priced $250 less than this guide’s #3 “Good” estimate of $14,250. Similarly, the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool shows the asking price is #$200 less than the #3 “Good” estimate of $14,200. If you are serious about buying this classic MG project, you can start the conversation only by calling Al at (860) 857-6165. When you connect, please remember to mention you saw their TD featured here on GuysWithRides.com. Good luck with the purchase!
While the MG TC proved there was a market for sports cars in the U.S. following World War II, its antiquated design would not keep buyers for very long, so Morris Garages launched the much-improved TD for 1950. Following the War, Great Britain desperately needed to export as many goods as possible to fund the country’s rebuilding effort, so the TD carried a few modifications aimed at the U.S. market. TDs imported to the U.S. now featured left-hand drive, rack-and-pinion steering, and larger bumpers making the new car was wider and heavier than the TC. Contrary to popular belief, smaller, the TD’s 15-inch steel wheels were the only ones available – no wire version was made available from the Abington factory.
