1988 Chevrolet Corvette 35th Anniversary Edition – $18,750
Once Chevrolet caught the “special edition” bug (and their associated higher profit margins) with the 1978 Corvette, designers used a variety of mild-to-wild color schemes for each iteration. While many might say the purple-over-yellow 1998 C5 Indy 500 Pace Car edition was the wildest to date, we disagree. In our humble opinion, the wildest special edition Corvette ever ironically relied on the most boring color imaginable. The 1988 35th Corvette used bright white everywhere: wheels, seats, and even the steering wheel featured the monotone bright white scheme.
If you ever wondered how hard it is to keep white leather looking like new, this 1998 Chevrolet Corvette 35th Anniversary edition with only 12,205 original miles provides a glimpse. The private seller coyly does not show straight-on pictures of the seats but mentions in his description they need to be recovered in order for this Corvette to be show-ready. The partial picture of the passenger seat shows a hide nearly completely ripped away, so we wonder whether aggressive cleaning with the wrong product dried out the leather despite the ultra-low mileage. Close-ups of the steering wheel and driver’s seat illustrate just how easily worn white leather can look if not properly cared for…daily.
Number 455 of 2050 produced is reported to be a nicely documented two-owner example currently listed for $18,750 here on Craigslist in Cohasset, Massachusetts. The Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the current ask falls between this guide’s current #3 “Good” estimate of $11,400 and its #2 “Excellent” appraisal of $24,500.
