Classifind Cut: 1974 AMC Javelin – Sold?

Jan 2021 | Classifind Cut, Classifinds, Malaise Monday

February 15, 2021 Update – We just confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found we’re assuming this ride “Sold?” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

By the early 1970s, increasing safety and emissions regulations forced automakers to make tough decisions on whether to invest in older models in order to comply.  One such casualty was American Motor’s Javelin pony car.  Changing buyer tastes for smaller, more fuel-efficient cars combined with an estimated $12 million needed to make the car’s bumpers compliant for the coming model year forced AMC to cancel its Javelin after 1974.

If you love the look of the curvier early seventies Javelins, then this burnt orange, driver-quality, 47K original mile, one-family-owned, 1974 originally listed in January 2021 on Craigslist in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina might be worth taking a look at. Offered at $14,500, the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool confirms the ask falls between this guide’s current #2 “Very Good” estimate of $10,900 and its #1 “Excellent” appraisal of $17,800.
