Classifind Cut: 1985 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Estate – Sold?

In addition to our recommendation of remembering “NOEL” when photographing cars (you can read our “How To Photograph a Car With a Cell Phone” here), a seller needs to stand back far enough to get at least several shots that contain the entire side view of the car in question. Unfortunately, the private seller of this 1985 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Estate originally listed on Craigslist in January 2020 in Reading, Pennsylvania didn’t follow that rule. It’s a shame as this example appears to be a very clean survivor in a great color combination.
1985 marked the ninth model year of the Caprice featuring the original downsized styling launched in 1977. Aside from minor interior trim upgrades, the big news for 1985 was under the hood. Specifically, The 305 cubic inch small block V8 engine received an electronic spark control that allowed a compression ratio increase from 8.6:1 to 9.5:1. That change bumped the engine’s 305’s output to jump to 165 horsepower. Currently asking $4,000, comparing that price against the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool confirms the ask falls between this guide’s #4 “Fair” estimate of $2,450 and its #3 “Good” appraisal of $5,400.

Does it have cloth, vinyl or leather interior and what is the mileage
Bill, if you hover your computer mouse over the picture (or if looking on a cell phone touch the picture) you’ll see navigation arrows that will take you through all of the pictures the owner took of the car. There are several that show the interior is the cloth/velour that GM was famous for during the period.
