Four By Ford: 1970 Ford F100 Custom Styleside Short Bed 4×4 – SOLD!
February 1, 2021 Update – we confirmed the seller of this “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.
While the vast majority of short bed pickups produced came configured with two-wheel-drive, four-wheel-drive was an option. This 1970 Ford F100 Custom Styleside originally listed in January 2021 on Craigslist in Center Valley, Pennsylvania (Allentown) is a prime example. Reported to have been repainted in the 1990s combined with a rebuilt engine by the previous owner, the current caretaker has their driver quality F100 priced at $15,000. Comparing this price against the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has Styleside priced just below the #3 “Good” estimate of $15,500.
Introduced for 1967, Ford produced its fifth-generation of F-Series trucks for six model years through 1972. While the fifth-generation featured updated styling and a bigger cab, it relied on a chassis dating back to 1961. Ford offered three trim levels on this generation of F-series: Base, Custom, and Ranger. For the 1970 model year, Ford engineers completed a mid-cycle update with many detail changes including a completely new grille including wraparound front turn signals, exterior trim changes, and new side marker lights.
While the Twin I Beam independent front suspension does not apply to the truck we’re featuring here, this 1970 Ford commercial shows what lengths the company went to prove their two-wheel-drive pickups provided a car-like ride:
We like this truck as a nice driver-quality piece that’s a capable offroader. Since the underside and bed are not detailed, you can daily this truck without getting nervous about messing it up. However, it does provide a great base for you to update both of those sections should you decide to start showing this truck. Whichever path you choose, good luck with the purchase!
