Oil Burner: 1983 Chevrolet C10 1/2 Ton Stepside Diesel – Sold?

Feb 2021 | Classifinds, Truckin Tuesday

March 2, 2021 Update – We just confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found we’re assuming this ride “Sold?” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

Chevrolet’s “Square Body” C10 pickup produced from 1973 through 1987 is currently enjoying solid price increases as enthusiasts gravitate to modifying this vintage of pickup. Ironically, Chevrolet internally referred to this generation of pickup as the “Rounded Line” when first introduced as many of the truck’s styling cues were much softer than the “Action Line” it replaced.  Most desired in this generation are the short wheelbase, stepside bed versions as they represent a merge of the old and new in pickup design.

While Chevrolet offered converted Oldsmobile 350 cubic inch V-8 diesel engine in C10s beginning in 1978,  in 1982 the division started offering a vastly improved 6.2-liter diesel. This new built-from-the-start-as-a-diesel engine helped GM successfully bid on a Department of Defense contract for the Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV), yielding a contract to build the military specification M-1008 and M-1028 pickups, M1010 ambulance, M1030 cab & chassis, plus M-2009 Command Vehicle (Blazer) from 1983-86.

Originally listed in February 2021 on Craigslist in Wexford, Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) is a 57K original mile C10 Scottsdale-trim Stepside equipped with the 6.2 Diesel motor. Comparing that price against the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller has their C10 Diesel priced between this guide’s #2 “Excellent” estimate of $12,000 and its #1 “Concours” appraisal of $20,500.  The  Collector Car Market Review Online Tool provides a much different assessment as in this case the asking price falls between this guide’s #3 “Good” appraisal of $6,200 and its #2 “Very Good” estimate of $19,100.

Here’s the seller’s description:
