You wouldn’t know it from the brand’s current success, but by the mid-1990s Porsche was in financial trouble.  An aging product line, a strong German mark, and a growing crop of highly capable Japanese performance cars conspired to hurt the brand’s sales. By 1995, Porsche managed to sell only 3,718 911 cabriolets in North America.

Most enthusiasts did not appreciate it at the time, but the 993 911 is now considered the best and final iteration of the air-cooled 911. With only twenty percent of the previous 964 generation’s parts carried over, the 993’s combination of an all-new multi-link Weissach-axle rear suspension, VarioRam induction, and six-speed manual continue to make this generation of 911 highly desirable.

It’s refreshing to come across a driver-quality, nicely maintained 993 example versus the typical low-mileage examples that collectors continue to keep stuffed away.  This black-over-tan 1995 911 Carrera Cabriolet has 83K original miles, most of which have been added by the second and current owner dating back to 2001. With a buy-it-now price of $42,993, this is a well-maintained, driver-quality 993 911 that the next caretaker can take to the next level that will easily recoup every dollar of their investment getting it there.

While a very good, mechanically maintained driver-quality example, it will take a thorough detailing and polishing to bring the paint up to Concours-level judging.  Additionally, the desirable split rims will need refinishing before judging. The private seller also notes the current aftermarket radio does not work reliably.
