The car that saved Porsche.  While the famed German Brand enjoys growing success today, in the mid-nineties a very strong Deutsch Mark combined with high-priced, essentially hand-built products had the company flirting with financial ruin.  To turn the company’s fortunes around, Porsche launched its all-new mid-engined, water-cooled, flat-six powered, sports car in the fall of 1996 at a very affordable $40,000 price point.  The original base Boxster was an immediate hit for Porsche 2001 was the last model year of the original 986 design before a mid-cycle refresh came along for the 2002 model year that saw the convertible top’s rear window converted from plastic to glass and a major interior upgrade. 2004 was the final model year for the first-generation 986 version of the Boxster.

The current caretaker and seller of this 2004 Porsche Boxster became the fourth owner approximately eighteen months ago when the car had 48,600 miles. Since that time, the seller logged just over 1,100 miles and loves the car very much. However, as with many first-time Porsche Boxster owners, shortly after they buy the two-seat mid-engine car, they decide to upgrade to a more traditional rear-engine-mounted 911. Currently in the works to buy a newer 911, the seller needs to make room and that is what is motivating him to sell this car.

As the pictures and video illustrate, this Boxster presents and drives in excellent condition.  The gray leather interior presents like new while on the exterior we’ve tried to point out the current din and paint chips found on the car’s exterior. There are no known mechanical nor electrical issues with this Boxster.  The seller notes this 2004 Boxster has not received an Intermediate Shaft Bearing Upgrade. Research has proven that failure almost always occurred on cars with less than 30K miles, so the next owner can likely hold off making the upgrade at the same time a new clutch is needed, as the labor to complete the job is essentially the same.

Is there a buy it now option? Also this is not a 6 speed, don’t advertise it as such.

To confirm, this Base Boxster is a five-speed car. Thank you for pointing out the error in the “Deets” table; we just uploaded a corrected version. Sorry, there is no buy now option until after the auction ends.

Sorry, no. Upon the sale of a vehicle, the buyer is responsible for either picking up the vehicle themselves or arranging delivery.
