Bargain Brit: 1955 Austin Healey 100M – Sold?
April 16, 2021 Update – We just confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found we’re assuming this ride “Sold?” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.
We love coming across vintage cars featuring long-term ownership, especially when they are value-priced. While many would rightly say forty-five large is hardly “value pricing”, in the world of vintage Austin-Healeys the asking price of this restored 1955 100M currently originally listed in March 2021 on Craigslist in Winnetka, Illinois (Chicago) offered at $45,000 is a bargain. Backing our assertion is the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirming the private seller has their 100M priced $11,000 less than this guide’s #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) estimate of $45,000. Further proof is in the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool that also confirms the seller’s ask falls well below this guide’s #4 “Fair” estimate of $64,000. We predict this restored example will not last long at this asking price.
This British gentleman provides us a taste of what it’s like to drive a similar, albeit right-hand-drive model of the car featured here:
Yellow over red may not be everyone’s favorite hue for a British sports car, but at this price, we’ll be glad to live with it. What the seller doesn’t indicate is how old the restoration is. We get the sense it was likely completed early into their twenty-year ownership, so expect to see some patina during your in-person inspection. As long as the undercarriage and other key restoration areas appear to be of high quality, you’ll be getting a vintage Healey you can actually enjoy driving rather than admiring it sitting in your garage.
Here’s the seller’s description:
“Desirable BN1 model with 2 position windscreen, electric overdrive, and rebuilt M spec engine. Same owner for past 20 years with completed professional restoration. Excellent condition but needs minor body repair. Exceptional classic British roadster styling and road manners. A solid investment opportunity which will provide many years of enjoyment.“
