Blue Beauty: 1968 Buick Skylark Custom Convertible – SOLD!
April 1, 2021 Update – we confirmed the seller of this Buick Skylark “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.
March 23, 2021 Update – The current caretaker of this Buick Skylark convertible apparently likes odd numbers, as they just lowered their original asking price of $24,495 to $21,599. Who are we to judge as this Skylark appears to be a great-looking car.
While we can pass on Venti-ports, we admit we’re suckers for Buicks featuring the brand’s famous “Sweepspear” design element flanking the sides of certain models dating back to the 1940s. One of the last examples featuring this unique design element was Buick’s new-for-1968 mid-size Skylark line. This 1968 Skylark Custom convertible currently originally listed in March 2021 in Newport, Rhode Island shows just how nice lighter colors bring out the bold character line. Currently offered at $24,495, comparing the ask against the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller has their Skylark priced just below this guide’s #2 “Excellent” estimate of $24,800. Interestingly, the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool provides a more optimistic assessment as in this case the asking price is nearly two thousand dollars above this guide’s #1 “Excellent” appraisal of $22,600.
GM redesigned their mid-size line for the 1968 model year and Buick’s recipient was the Special, Skylark, and Grand Sport models. While base power came in the form of a 250 cubic inch inline-six, Skylarks such as the example featured here could be ordered with Buick’s 350 cubic inch V8. While two-door versions utilized a 112-inch wheelbase, four-doors benefitted from a longer 116-inch version.
While this video does not have any sound, it’s an interesting take from back in 1968 illustrating all of the features of the new Skylark:
While we love the blue-over-blue color scheme and bucket-seat-with-console interior, sorry, but the first thing we would do is replace the OOOOHGAA horn with a factory-correct piece. Otherwise, this Skylark appears to be a well-sorted cruiser.

This appears to be a very nice car. I was disappointed with the undercarriage pictures. It appears to be on a lift, but just one crappy picture that doesn’t really show anything. And the price seems fair if the bottom isn’t rusted out. lol
I totally agree with the author about the “Sweepspear” being the most attractive Buick line but I am also partial to the Venti-ports on certain cars ie. Electras of 1962 vintage. Sweet.
