Classifind Cut: 1955 Pontiac Cheiftain Two-Door Wagon Project – SOLD!

by | Mar 2021 | Classifinds, Wagon Wednesday

April 20, 2021 Update – we confirmed the seller of this vintage Pontiac “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

Pontiac, just like sister division Chevrolet, offered a pair of two-door station wagons for 1955. While the Star Chief Safari was Pontiac’s version of the highly desirable Nomad, the more mundane Chieftan made do with a two-door sedan roofline wagon.  If you’ve had your heart set on doing a Tri-Five Chevy wagon build but still want something a bit different, then this 1955 Pontiac Cheiftan two-door station wagon project originally listed in March 2021 on Craigslist in Shamung, New Jersey for $8,000 or best offer may be a candidate for. Comparing that price against the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool confirms the seller’s ask for their project is well below this guide’s #4 “Fair” condition estimate of $13,300.

Other than some documented floor work, this Cheiftan appears to be a solid car overall. The only thing you have to decide is whether to restore the car or go the restomod route. With what appears to be a more modern interior and a project car missing what is likely to be hard-to-source interior trim bits, we’d lean towards the restomod route on this Pontiac.

Here’s the seller’s description:

“I have a rare 1955 Pontiac 2 dr wagon. This is a complete running car. It’s not road worthy yet but could be with little work. The body is solid and glass is good except for one cracked piece. Had a new custom gas tank. This is not a safari so they do not make a tank for this one. Rebuilt fuel pump. These are rare and cool. Just have too many cars at this point. It does have the fold down rear seat and there is some rust in the floors but I have replacement panels. Rims in the picture are not on the car. It has 15” steelies. Clearing out space. Too many projects. Not giving it away but make an offer”
