Hand Me Down: 1989 Buick Electra Estate Wagon – Sold?
April 27, 2021 Update – We just confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found we’re assuming this ride “Sold?” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.
If you can’t buy a collector car from the original owner, the next best alternative is to buy the car from one of their heirs as they will likely have the complete history of the vehicle. Our latest example is this 1989 Buick Electra Estate Wagon currently originally listed in March 2021 on Craigslist in Columbia, Connecticut (Hartford) appears to be a finely restored example offered at $9,000 currently. Neither Hagerty Insurance nor the Collector Car Marketplace provides valuations on these Rad Era wagons yet, so our only source, the NADA Guides Online Classic Car Valuation Tool currently lists its “Low”, “Average”, and “High” retail value range for these wagons at only $1,567, $3,347, and $4,702, respectively. Bring A Trailer had a virtually identical 1988 example with a cloth interior sell at No Reserve for $7,100, so we hope the seller has left room for realistic negotiation.
This vintage video posted on the Rivlanta YouTube Channel shows Buick’s Action Library summary of Buick’s virtually identical 1990 station wagon lineup:
It seems like every late 1980s Buick Estate wagon we come across is in this color combination and I have to laugh as this car is virtually identical to the 1988 example my Mother-in-Law bought new. Oddly, while the seller mentions the desirable interior has no cracks, he does not provide a picture of the interior other than the like-new vinyl third-row seat. While we have a place in our heart for this color and vintage of Estate Wagon and while the interior appears to present very well, there’s just too little here condition-wise to justify the too-high asking price. If you can talk the seller down or wait it out until he comes down to reality, you’ll have a nice example to start fixing up to its former glory.
Here’s the seller’s description:
“My Fathers Car and then Mine. 96.000 miles. Drives brand new. ALL Documents included. Have original window sticker. 23.400.00 back in 89. All leather non-cracked seats. New headliner. New Ac system. Newer tires. All original except headliner and ac. My father babied this car. I’ve owned it for 6 years and take it out around five times a year. I’ve never personally seen one as Beautiful as this except when these HISTORICAL cars were sold brand new.“
