Wolf in Civilian Clothing: 1993 Mercedes-Benz 250GD – Sold?

by | Apr 2021 | Craigslist ClassiFINDS, Truckin Tuesday

May 10, 2021 Update – We just confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found we’re assuming this ride “Sold?” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

While the Mercedes-Benz Swabian-built G-Class has become a bloated, overpriced daily driver for celebrities in the U.S., the underpinnings of these very capable vehicles made them the vehicle of choice for many militaries across the globe.  We came across a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 250GD “Wolf” originally listed in April 2021 on Craigslist in Edison, New Jersey reported to be a former German Military vehicle that has been retired, restored, and imported to the U.S.  While our typical pricing sources do not provide valuations for these vehicles, not surprisingly Bring A Trailer auctioned a fair share and the asking price for our example appear to be in line with several of the results achieved on that site.

If you’re not familiar with the Miliary, or “Wolf” version of the G-Wagen, this YouTuber provides a great overview:

Based on the description provided, we get the sense an American commissioned to have this 250 restored in Germany before it was imported to the states. What’s unclear is whether the deal fell through or the importer elected to sell their Mercedes shortly after its purchase.

Here’s the seller’s description:

“A very rear 1993 Mercedes that was a German Military vehicle, was used in the army via 93 -98, then was acquired by the owner to ship to USA, recently, truck just shipped and was fully restored in Germany all original with a fresh painted and all new brakes suspension and Engine that was gone through inspection from head to toe. Great opportunity, on this vehicle which only has 60.000km, 40.000 miles, very rear Great classic piece of art, they come with a Engine that is built to run a 1.000.000 km, 750.000 miles approximately, 4-speed manual transmission, with lock 4×4 differentials, comes with 125hp and good torque that can go through the mountain’s, come and take a look anytime call Van.
