Guess What Ride 35: What Are These Things?
GuessWhatRide is the GuysWithRides.com game designed to test your collector car knowledge. Our latest test that ran during the first two weeks of May 2021 challenged readers to guess what these threaded fittings might be used for. All correct answers were entered into a drawing to win one (1) bottle of Original Super Clean and one (1) can of Super Clean Aerosol, a $20 value, courtesy of our friends at Super Clean!
Entrants had to choose one of the following answers correctly to be entered into the drawing: “Hot Rod Brake Proportioners”, “Spark Plug Oil Fouling Preventers”, “Vintage A/C Line Fittings”, or “None of the Above.”
If you would have guessed Spark Plug Oil Fouling Preventers, you would have been correct. Surprisingly, nearly ninety percent of the contest entries correctly guess that. Of those, Reader Gene M.’s email address was selected at random to win the Super Clean prize pack.
While it’s too late to enter this contest, keep an eye out for our next contest coming soon!

I used 4 of these on my 57 Chevy 283 back in 1966. My first car when I was 16. Worked like a champ. Finally did a valve job.
thought they might be for spark plug compression tester adaptors but made to lower compression
I sold a few of these when I worked at an auto parts store, they were really designed as a temporary repair
Spark plug anti foulers. Used when you had a worn rings that were fouling the spark plugs with oil. We sold many of them many years ago
I have seen them used to get an O2 sensor up out of the exhaust flow to get it to pass emissions.
Tricky!
