Attempting to recover from the disastrous sales numbers of the eleventh-generation model produced from 1986 through 1991, Cadillac launched an all-new Eldorado for 1992 that was inspired by the GM Division’s 1988 Solitaire show car. Nearly one foot longer, three inches wider, and much heavier than its predecessor, the twelfth-generation gained back better proportions as well as the frame-less door glass that was a signature styling element for the brand for many years.
The example featured here is a 1992 launch year ESC (short for Eldorado Sport Coupe) model, which features the tried-and-true 4.9 Liter 200 horsepower overhead valve L26 V8 rather than the troublesome early vintage Northstar engine that replaced it. ESCs are distinguished by a traditional stand-up hood ornament, 16″ multi-spoke alloy wheels, and concealed exhausts. This particular example also features a simulated convertible top that was very popular during the period. Inside, this ESC features full leather bucket seats in addition to Zebrano wood dashboard trim, 6-way power front bucket seats, climate control, digital instrumentation, column-mounted automatic transmission shifter, and three-position electronically adjustable “Speed-Sensitive Suspension”.
The current caretaker, Phil, first spotted this all-burgundy Eldorado listed for sale while passing a local farm implement business. Phil learned that the original owners of this Cadillac decided to trade it in on a new lawn mover as they were no longer using the Eldorado much, hence the low mileage that averaged roughly two thousand miles annually during their ownership. Phil purchased the Eldorado in 2019 with the intent to have his newly licensed daughter drive it as a big safe first car. As luck would have it, however, his daughter something a bit smaller and a bit more economical for her needs. Consequently, Phil decided to sell the car to an interested caretaker rather than have it continue to sit idle.
The LemonSquad Pre-Purchase Inspection (“PPI”) confirmed this Eldorado to be in excellent condition befitting its 55K original miles. To read the full report, please click on the picture below:
