1983 Chevrolet K20 Diesel

Available through a reserve auction starting at 9:00 am Eastern time on Thursday, May 6, 2021, is this 1983 Chevrolet K20 4×4 pickup currently located in Vansant, Virginia.  The auction will run for fourteen continuous days, ending at 7:00 pm Eastern time on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Chevrolet’s “Square Body” C/K line of light-duty pickups produced from 1973 through 1987 is currently enjoying huge popularity as enthusiasts gravitate to modifying this vintage of pickup. Ironically, Chevrolet internally referred to this generation of pickup as the “Rounded Line” when first introduced as many of the truck’s styling cues were much softer than the “Action Line” it replaced.

As demand in the early 1980s for better fuel economy increased, Chevrolet answered by introducing a 6.2 Liter (379 cubic inch) diesel V8 in 1982 for the Chevrolet C/K that continued through 1993. The 6.2 Liter diesel emerged as a high-MPG alternative to the V8 gasoline engine lineup, and achieved better mileage than the General Motors 4.3 L V6 gasoline engines of the 1980s, at a time when the market was focused on power rather than efficiency. However, it was designed to easily install in place of the gasoline V8, using the same mounting and attachments for transmissions as all GM truck engines. Overall weight for the complete engine is slightly heavier than the 454 cubic inch gasoline engine also offered during that period.

We’re pleased to offer at auction this 1983 Chevrolet K20 3/4 Ton 4×4 pickup featuring a factory-installed 6.2 Liter diesel engine.  The current caretaker, Brian, thoroughly enjoys this truck. However, too many projects and too little storage have him looking to sell his Square Body. Not satisfied with the truck’s factory power output, Brian took things up a notch by installing a Gale Banks turbocharger specifically designed for this application. Not stopping there, Brian installed a complete LMC Truck interior upgrade package that frankly could hold its own to any modern truck interior materials. The truck also benefits from a one-year-old paint job that both the inspector and the pictures provided confirm presents well.

The LemonSquad Pre-Purchase Inspection (“PPI”) confirmed this K20 to be in excellent condition considering its 159K original miles.  To read the full report, please click on the picture below:

Important Note:

In the report, the inspector made the following inaccurate comments:

  1. He comments the spare tire is missing, however, his very own pictures of the underside show the spare tire in its proper under-bed mounting location.
  2. The inspector incorrectly commented the seats look worn when in fact the seller recently installed this LMC Truck Signature Series Seat and Console that clearly has a distressed leather look. The seller reports the brand new seats have only been sat in several times.
  3. The report also confirmed that the only thing not working on the truck at this time is the factory cruise control.  Brian notes that even the factory dual tanks work as designed.
