NEW! Award 71: 1936 Hudson Terraplane Pickup Project – Sold?

by | May 2021 | Classifinds, NEW Award, Truckin Tuesday

May 18, 2021 Update – while this vintage Terraplane “Classifind” expired recently, given the seller’s past history we suspect may not actually be sold yet.  For now, we’re labeling this ride “Sold?” However, we will keep an eye out for an updated listing. In the interim, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

The Hudson Motor Company used the “Terraplane” subbrand name across its line of both cars and trucks from 1932 through 1938. When we came across this 1936 3/4 ton project most recently listed in April 2021 on Craigslist in Chicago, Illinois, it looked familiar to us.  Fortunately, Google rarely forgets and a quick search confirmed our suspicions: BarnFinds.com featured this rare truck in February 2019 when it was offered for auction on eBay.  At the time, the high bid was $10,500, which apparently did not meet its reserve. Now offered at $16,500, a check of the paperback edition of the NADA Classic, Collectible, Exotic, and Muscle Car Appraisal Guide confirms the current asking price is optimistically at the top of this reference’s “Low”, “Average”, and “High” value range of $6,575, $11,000, and $16,500, respectively. Asking top dollar for a non-running project that has languished unsold for two years that we can document earns the seller of this Terraplane our latest “NEW! (short for “No Effin Way!”) Award for their unrealistic price expectation.

Still located in what appears to be a Jaguar restoration shop located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the current caretaker continuing to admit they already have too many projects, they should cut their losses and be more realistic on the asking price for what is a non-running project in need of complete restoration.  The combination of collectors truly interested in restoring one of these are simply aging out of the hobby combined with under-$20K pricing once finished means this truck will likely end up a candidate for a Rat- or Restomod build.

Here’s the seller’s description:
