Late Breaking: 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Van Project – SOLD!

by | May 2021 | Classifinds, Truckin Tuesday

May 10, 2021 Update – Offered for only $1,200 and appearing to have a very solid exterior, we’re not surprised the seller of this rare windowless Corvair deleted their listing after less than one week, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

Among the rarest Chevrolet Corvair model produced, the windowless van such as this 1964 project listed in April 2021 on Craigslist in Newington, Connecticut (Hartford) appears to be a restorable example offered at $1,200 currently. Comparing that price against the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool confirms the ask for this non-running project is correctly below this guide’s #4 “Fair” estimate of $4,550.

While the exterior appears to be very solid in need of fresh paint, the interior and drivetrain are clearly where the restorer will spend the bulk of the time and money making this air-cooled van roadworthy again.  Unfortunately with values for “Excellent” condition examples topping out in the low twenties, the next caretaker needs to understand they will very likely be underwater getting this rare van ready to cruise in.

Here’s the seller’s description:

“64 Corvan with 4 speed. I believe the engine is 95 hp, but have not confirmed. Although I have not started it in a couple of years, the engine runs and the vans drives and shifts fine. Currently, the brakes are not working. The van has what looks to be Oldsmobile wheels on it, but I have a set of Corvair of wheels with tires that will go with it.

No interior to speak of, though the original seat frames are there and the slide mechanism works. Also, all of the glass is good. The van is located in central Connecticut, just a few minutes south of Hartford. It will need to be towed.
