GwR Success Story: 1969 International Harvester 1100D

February 6, 2021 Update – Earlier today, Donald provided an update on the restoration of this ’69 Internation Harvester 1100D we originally featured for sale in the summer of 2020.  Donald reports they were able to salvage some daylight over the weekend when his team set the bed back on the frame for mockup as well as take some pictures of just how much sanding and priming has been completed since November.  Don reports two small parts on the cab corners still need to be addressed but overall he’s pleased with who well this IH pickup is beginning to take shape.  While Don and his team continue their efforts getting this truck ready for paint, the owner Eric has been busy sourcing exterior trim as well as a completely new and refurbished interior.  Don and his team still have a fair amount of time ahead of them to block sand this truck but we’re all looking forward to seeing this once it comes out of the paint booth.  Thanks for the update Don – please keep them coming!

November 12, 2020 Update:  Earlier this evening we received a text from a fine young gentleman name Donald from central Pennsylvania indicating that he came across our July feature of this ’69 International Harvester 1100D pickup accidentally after trying to learn more about the model in general.  As we understand, Eric B. bought this truck in July quickly determined it was more of a project they could handle and have enlisted Donald and his team’s services to start the restoration of this rare truck and to keep us posted on his truck’s progress.  Good luck with the restoration Donald and keep the picture updates coming!

July 20th Update:  We confirmed the private seller of this rare IH truck deleted their Craigslist post in the past week, so we’re calling this one, “Sold!”  Unlike the “Rounded Line” Chevrolet trucks that enthusiasts have now nick-named “Square Bodies”, this vintage of International Harvester’s pickup really should hold that title.

On the extremely rare occasions we come across an International Harvester truck, we almost always move it to the head of the line to feature for Truckin Tuesday.  Our latest example is this 1969 1100D model recently listed on Craigslist in Tomaqua, Pennsylvania with an asking price of $5,499.  Relying on the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool as a price guide confirms this private seller has his IH priced between the #3 “Good” estimate of $9,600 and the #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) estimate of $3,700.

International Harvester’s Light Line pickups, also called the D-Series, replaced the company’s antiquated C-Series.  It was largely a re-bodied version of its predecessor, with a square-rigged look very similar to the period Scout utility vehicle.  Similar to the Scout lineup, IH offered their Light Line pickups with either step-side or “Bonus Load” style beds in several lengths with either two- or four-wheel-drive form. Engines ranged from an AMC-sourced inline-six to IH’s rugged 304, 345, and 392 cubic inch V-8s until the latter was replaced by AMC’s 401 cubic inch V-8 in 1974. Manual transmissions ranged from a column shift three-speed to the choice of under or overdrive five-speeds, along with Chrysler three-speed automatics. Three levels of trim were offered during this era: Standard, Deluxe, and Custom. The Custom was the range-topping trim, and featured simulated woodgrain body side trim and a plush, car-like interior.

Originally a Washington State truck, we like the solid underpinnings that make this a great project truck to either restore or restomod that dares to be different from the sea Action Line Chevys from this vintage.  Good luck with the purchase!
