1946 Willys-Jeep CJ-2A – SOLD for $8,000
May 14, 2021 – We’re pleased to report the seller of this Jeep CJ-2A just found a new caretaker willing to pay the $8,000 asking price. Consequently, we’re now able to call this former auction listing “Sold!”
March 30th Update – Bidding on this Jeep CJ-2A ended and since it did not make its reserve, the seller has it listed for $8,000. Additionally, the seller completed spot painting the lower driver’s side section that was still in black primer in the original pictures. The current feature photo now shows the panel completed and matched.
A true barn find, the current caretaker, Bert, recently pulled this Willys out of storage dating back to 1977 and has spent the better part of the winter getting all of the mechanicals sorted and back to working order. This CJ-2A is the perfect Jeep for vintage military enthusiasts to use as is or to take it to the next level. In addition to featuring its original 134 cubic inch flat in-line four engine, this Jeep still has its Military-style two-stick transfer case with PTO and four non-directional tires suitable for off-road duty. Given the barn find nature combined with the simplicity of this CJ-2A and the fact this will likely not see road use again, we’ve elected not to provide a pre-purchase inspection for this Jeep.
The only non-original changes are limited to two: the first is an upgrade of the electrical system to 12 volts supplied by a modern alternator. The second is this Jeep saw duty earlier in its life as a snowplow vehicle, so a prior owner reinforced the front frame with several diamond-plate gussets.
This Jeep is currently located in Burlington County, New Jersey, a suburb of Philadephia. If needed, Bert can help arrange shipping for you.
During his ownership, Bert completed the following:
- Sourced and replaced a proper steel tailgate.
- A correct OEM gauge kit, not shown currently in the pictures, will be included as part of the sale.
- Sourced and installed a replacement fuel tank.
- Sourced and installed the correct snorkel-style air cleaner.
To help you make informed bids, here is a summary of both the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool and Collector Car Marketplace estimates. We’re pleased to report Bert agreed to a very realistic reserve price we believe will help find the next caretaker for this neat piece of history!
