1987 Toyota Supra MKIII Turbo – SOLD FOR $10,000!

May 31, 2021 Update – We’re pleased to report the seller and the highest bidder came to an agreement a few days after the auction for a sale price of $10,000! At GuysWithRides, we don’t just focus on the auction, we work with sellers and buyers until we find a new caretaker for each ride we feature!

May 27, 2021 Update – While the bidding ramped up at the very end, the high bid was not enough to meet the seller’s reserve.  Consequently, we’ve moved this Supra to our “Rides Still Available” page where the seller has agreed to accept $12,000 for what is a very original MkIII Supra Turbo in great condition.

GuysWithRides.com is excited to offer this 98K original mile and unmolested, 1987 Toyota Supra MkIII Turbo for our latest reserve auction lot. Bidding opens Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Noon Eastern Time and continues for 14 days through Thursday, May 27 at 7:00 pm. This Supra Turbo is currently located about one hour east of Philadelphia International Airport in Central New Jersey.

Here’s a walk-around video of this completely stock ’87 Toyota Supra MkIII Turbo:

The third-generation Toyota Supra represented a marked shift from the preceding era and created further differentiation between the grand touring two-door and the hot hatch Celica. The MKIII came with both naturally aspirated and turbocharged six-cylinder powerplants, transitioning from the 5MGE inline-six to the new 7M-GE or 7M-GTE, depending on which engine option you chose. The Supra, like so many other Japanese sports cars, also incorporated numerous technology features, including the self-adjusting TEMS suspension, headlight washers, and three-channel ABS brakes. Though decidedly having more of a grand tourer personality than an outright performance car, the MK3 Supra showed you can own a high-performance coupe with Toyota reliability baked right in.

Dan, the current caretaker of this of the survivor quality Supra MkIII, became the fourth owner in 2010. An avid Toyota Supra fan, he has owned a number of examples of the brand over the years.  Dan has kept this Supra original right down to the factory radio and even more interesting, the turbo cool-down warning label pasted on the driver’s door at the factory remains in place.

While this car is a great survivor-quality example, Dan is not afraid to drive it and as such, we rate the paint as driver-quality. That said, a weekend’s worth of paint correction and detailing will have this Supra show ready.  Even more striking is how like-new the original cloth upholstery appears that is clearly a sign this car has been kept out the sun when not in use.

The CarFax below confirms this Supra has never been in an accident. Dan notes that last year, he proactively had the head gasket replaced that included an upgrade of the head studs with brand new ARP Grade 8 steel units.  While every option and light worked during our filing of the car, we note that the air conditioning system appears to need a charge, although Dan notes the A/C systems of this vintage of Supra were never that cold to begin with.

Do you have any pics of the underside?
The ones you present show almost nothing

Sorry, but we beg to differ on your assessment. If you have only reviewed the pictures on your phone, we strongly encourage you to look again on another device with a larger screen. If that still doesn’t help, please feel free to send an email to “auctions@guyswithrides.com” and we will gladly reply with the full-size, hi-resolution version of the underside pictures for your inspection.

There are sixteen pictures of the underside that clearly show it to be in original condition with the original undercoating in place.

Picture 147 in the Carousel at the very top and “87_Supra_Details_005” in the grid directly above show the pinch weld exhibiting some surface rust likely resulting from a floor jack.

Pictures 105 and 144 in the top carousel show the underside of each door to be rust-free. Pictures 84-90 clearly show how rust-free the interior of the truck is and we note the spare tire is original and appears never used.
