Vanquished Vinyl: 1958 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Two Door Sedan – SOLD!
July 16, 2021 Update – We confirmed the seller of this Oldsmobile “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call us directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.
We hate to call it out, but some classic cars that look fantastic on the outside ruin it for us the moment we lay eyes on the interior. A prime example is this turquoise and white 1958 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight once listed on Craigslist in July 2021 in Bowling Green, Kentucky in all of its mid-century modern Jet Age optimism. That is until you open the doors to peer inside. What was likely once a worn blend of turquoise, white, and gray vinyl and other materials designed to complement the exterior has been replaced with a monotone diamond-tufted velour that screams this car was restored in the late eighties or early nineties. Some many like it, but the first thing we would do after bringing this car home is to try to start sourcing an interior more fitting to match the exterior of this otherwise stunning Oldsmobile. Matching the original interior was likely a very tall order back when this car was restored, but with the advent of the internet and a number of interior specialists available, our hunch is someone can help create a better interior tribute for this car.
A driver quality ride offered at $25,900 currently, comparing that price against the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool confirms the private seller has their Eighty-Eight priced five hundred dollars less than this guide’s #1 “Excellent” appraisal of $26,400.
Here’s the seller’s description:

Keep or change: what would you do with the interior in this Eighty-Eight? Comment below and let us know!
I can picture in my mind what the original interior looked like. Probably some light and dark gray with a small amount of turquoise mixed in to bring it all together. I would go high up in the mountains and get just the right Naugatuck and use the hide and restore this to it original beauty.
