Chevrolet launched the fourth generation Camaro in January 1993 as a 1993 model. Taking a cue from Fiero and Saturn production techniques, the new design utilized Sheet Moulding Compound (“SMC”) for the roof, rear hatch, door panels, and rear spoiler.  Both the front and rear suspension design was improved over its predecessor.  All models came with a red Chevrolet Bowtie on the grille while the instrument cluster featured yellow lettering, a one-year-only feature.

The high-performance Z28 model came with rectangular dual exhaust tips to distinguish it from the base models. The new Z28 featured the 5.7 Liter pushrod LT1 V8 engine rated at 275 horsepower and 325 foot-pounds of torque Chevrolet introduced in the C4 Corvette the prior year. The V8 engine came standard with a 4L60 automatic transmission, however, Chevrolet offered the Borg-Warner T56 six-speed manual transmission as a no-cost option.

In 1993, IndyCar selected the Camaro Z28 as the official pace car for the Indianapolis 500 that year. A special “pace car edition” trim was introduced in the same year and featured “Indy 500” lettering on a black and white body color scheme with multicolored pinstriping and white painted wheels.

The AC Delco Connect YouTube Channel has this video showing the actual pace car driven around the Indy circuit that year:

Stash, the fifth owner of this Z/28 Indy Pace Car replica, purchased the car approximately one year ago with 580 miles on the odometer.  An avid Indy 500 Pace Car fan, his intent was to take the car to this year’s invitational Pace Car Reunion held earlier this year at the Motor Speedway. Unfortunately, personal reasons prevented him from attending the event, and with a 2022 C8 Corvette on order, he now needs to make room in his garage for that car before it arrives.

Stash indicates that every owner of this Camaro has treated it as a limited use Cars and Coffee/Show Car since new and that is the primary reason the car has only 700 miles to this day. Helping the preservation quality of this Z/28 is the fact every owner kept the car stored in a climate-controlled garage. Stash reports the only modification made on this car was an interesting firmware update to the factory-installed radio that now provides it with Bluetooth capability. Additionally, the upgrade included the install of a hidden AUX cable.

With so few original miles on this 1993 Z/28 Pace Car combined with the current caretaker replacing all of the car’s critical fluids and properly maintaining all the weatherstripping, we’re waiving our normal requirement for a Pre-Purchase Inspection.  To verify the authenticity of the car’s mileage, you can inspect the complimentary CarFax.
