One of 3,640: 1954 Chevrolet C1 Corvette – SOLD!

by | Jul 2021 | Classifinds, Sports Car Saturday

July 16, 2021 Update – we confirmed the seller of this C1 Corvette “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call us directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

1954 was the second model year of production for the Chevrolet Corvette.  After managing to hand-build only 300 white examples for the launch year, Chevrolet production engineers were getting more comfortable handling and painting the then-exotic fiberglass body material. As a result, production increased twelve-fold for 1954 with 3,640 units produced. Prices for 1954 models traditionally lag behind the ’53s in value as there were simply that many more produced.

Discovered in July 2021 on Craigslist in Trumball, Connecticut is Guys With Rides’ first-ever C1 Corvette “Classifind.” A running project in need of TLC, the current caretaker has their C1 Corvette priced at $49,500. Comparing that price against the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller has their Corvette priced between this guide’s #4 “Fair” (Daily Driver) estimate of $37,100 and its #3 “Good” appraisal of $65,300.  Similarly, the  Collector Car Market Review Online Tool reveals the asking price falls between this guide’s #4 “Fair” estimate of $45,000 and its #3 “Good” appraisal of $64,000.

If you always wanted to add a C1 Corvette to your collection but could not stomach the price of a ’53, the fact this ’54 is the desired white-over-red color combination is the next best alternative. The only thing you need to confirm with the seller is whether this C1 is an early- or late-build Corvette, as the later builds feature an improved cam profile that squeezed out an additional five-horsepower from Chevy’s “Blue Flame” inline-six.

Here’s the seller’s description:
