The indestructible truck. Nothing can kill it. Perfect for the Zombie Apocalypse. Don’t believe us? Then watch the classic Top Gear episode in which Jeremy Clarkson unsuccessfully tries to kill his Toyota Hi-Lux by clicking here. Equipped with Toyota’s virtually bulletproof 22R inline-four, five-speed manual, and four-wheel-drive, this 1982 example originally listed in January 2022 on Craigslist in Berryville, Virginia (Winchester) with nearly a quarter of a million miles traveled serves as proof the value of these trucks continues to increase.

Currently offered for $10,000, a check of the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool reveals the seller’s ask currently falls just below this guide’s #1 “Excellent” estimate of $10,800. A check of Bring a Trailer results confirms trucks in excellent condition are selling for much higher than that, so that site may be the seller’s current motivating factor for the slightly optimistic price they set.

Toyota introduced its redesigned Hilux was introduced in August 1978, with a four-wheel-drive variant launched in January 1979. While most dimensions remained similar to its outgoing predecessor, the new model featured wide front and rear tracks. A key change of the front suspension was the swap of coil springs in favor of a double-wishbone, torsion bar design. Four-wheel-drive-equipped versions shared some common technology with the larger Toyota Land Cruiser.
