1994 Acura NA1 NSX 5-Speed – SOLD FOR $81,000!

January 20, 2022 Update – We’re pleased to report that following the close of the auction, the second-highest bidder and the seller were able to agree to a sales price of $81,000. We’re are pleased to see this car go to a passionate NSX enthusiast who plans to keep his dream car for a very long time!

January 19, 2022 Update – The high bid of $75,000 did not meet the seller’s reserve price of $85,000, so we’ve moved this vehicle to our “Rides Still Available” where you can either select the green“Buy Now” option or enter a realistic counteroffer in the “Bid” box.

January 18, 2022 Update – As word about the auction of this 1994 Acura NSX spreads, we’ve received a number of questions about the maintenance records as well as who performed the installation of the Comptech supercharger and related equipment.  The seller just provided over fifty receipts dating back to the original purchase of the car.  For convenience, we’ve added them to a separate receipt picture gallery below.

Building on the success in the 1980s as a Formula One Engine Supplier, Honda management had a desire to develop a V6-powered Supercar capable of at least meeting the performance of Ferraris of the period in a more reliable at lower price package. The result was the NSX designed by a team led by Chief Designer Masahito Nakano and Executive Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara.  The NSX benefited from advanced aerodynamics and styling inspired by an F-16 fighter jet cockpit as well as input from the late Formula One World Champion, Ayrton Senna, during the final development stages.

Launched in 1990 as a halo brand for Honda’s new Acura brand, the NSX became the world’s first mass-produced car to feature an all-aluminum body. It was powered by an all-aluminum 3.0 L V6 engine featuring Honda’s VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system developed in the 1980s, and a five-speed manual transmission. Honda produced the initial, 3.0L powered NA-1 NSX’s through the 1996 model year.

Terry, the original buyer of the 1994 Acura NSX offered here, first leased the car when new with 62 miles in April 1994.  It’s worth noting at the time Terry lived in California, so this Acura NSX features California-compliant emissions equipment.  Terry never had any intent to keep this NSX long-term. However, he enjoyed the car so much that he went through the added expense of buying out his own lease on the car.  Terry kept his 1994 Acura NSX for 27 years until his passing in 2021.

A fastidious owner, Terry kept every receipt and reportedly only drove this NSX in good weather. During his 27 years of ownership, Terry made several subtle and tasteful modifications during his ownership that include:

  • An Alpine CHMS620 Six-Disc CD Changer added in 1999.
  • An Acura factory car cover purchased in 1998 will be included as part of the sale.
  • After relocating to Lincoln Nebraska, in 2006 Terry spent over $13,000 adding a Comptech supercharger kit, carbon fiber airbox, and high-performance exhaust system resulting in a dyno-proven 380 horsepower.
  • A tweed fabric replacement rear window deck cover hand-sewn by Terry’s sister.

While the gallery below provides copies of several key receipts documenting the items above, included in the sale are all receipts dating back to the initial purchase of this 1994 Acura NSX.

The original owner, recently deceased, purchased the car in California when new and thus was California emissions certified from the factory. Receipt 81 in the gallery above documents the original owner had a Comptech Supercharger system installed in 2006 by Science of Speed, a noted NSX and S2000 Tuner based in Tempe, Arizona. At the time of the install, the original owner had moved from California to Nebraska. While we’re not aware of this NSX being tested for CARB compliance following the Comptech supercharger install, after a bit of research, we did come across this Executive Order D-455-1 (https://arb.parts/Executive-Order/D-455-1) indicating the Comptech Supercharger system for the NA1 NSX is exempt. So, while neither the seller (the deceased original owner’s sister) nor Guys With Rides offer any guarantee this NSX will meet a California emissions test as it sits today, given the factory California emissions equipment combined with the aforementioned CARB exemption, it’s reasonable to believe the car would pass.
