Yes, we know. Pontiac did not launch the GTO “Judge” model until 1969 when it tried to capitalize on the catchphrase “Here Comes The Judge” on the late 1960s TV Show Laugh-In. Ty, the builder and seller of this restomod started with a real-deal, 400 cubic inch V8-powered, “242” GTO hardtop and set about creating a Carousel Red GTO Judge Restomod.
Our first impression of the car is the just-right stance Ty achieved with his 1968 GTO Judge tribute. The tubular front suspension and tire combination mounted on five-spoke Boss wheels provide the car with a vintage raised rear-end look while providing more modern ride and handling characteristics.
Powering this 1968 Pontiac GTO Judge Tribute restomod is a 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 bored out to 468 cubic inches. Further performance modifications include Edelbrock cylinder heads featuring valves controlled by a roller-style camshaft. Sandwiched between the heads is an Edelbrock intake manifold topped by a Holley double pump carburetor. Custom exhaust headers scavenge spent gasses into an aluminized dual exhaust system. Ty estimates the engine puts out six hundred horsepower at the flywheel.
With all that “Go”, Ty realized his 1968 GTO tribute needed proper “Whoa”. To stop this GTO properly, Ty upgraded the front disc brakes with four-piston calipers painted red supplied by SSBC-USA.
In true restomod fashion, Ty upgraded the interior with a number of comfort and convenience features. While the black “Morrokide” (Pontiac marketing speak for vinyl) bucket seat interior looks factory stock, the digital gauge cluster, Vintage Air aftermarket A/C system, back-up camera, and integrated blue-tooth head unit provide a more modern driving experience. To ensure all of the electronics work properly, Ty completely rewired the car during its build.
