Florida Survivor: 1987 Dodge Ramcharger 4×4 – SOLD!

Feb 2022 | Craigslist ClassiFINDS, Truckin Tuesday

February 7, 2022 Update – We confirmed the seller of this “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call us directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

Square body SUVs have long been darlings of the collector truck marketplace. Still, they seemingly haven’t quite peaked yet, as you can still find driver-grade examples for reasonable money. This is good news, as it can sometimes seem like every potential collector vehicle has already set sail for the likes of Barrett-Jackson, never to be seen as affordable again. This 1987 Dodge Ramcharger 4×4 was originally listed in January 2022 on Craigslist in St. Petersburg, Florida, and is said to be a life-long southern truck with 68,000 original miles for $13,500. Comparing this price against the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms this private seller has his Ramcharger priced fairly, as one in “Good” condition is valued at $16,700.

Whether it’s a Bronco, a Scout, or a Blazer, square body trucks are smart buys in almost any condition. Every day you see truly rough examples fetching healthy four-figure prices, while survivors or restored trucks can easily climb out of the upper twenties and low thirties. Lately, there’s been a rash of gorgeous K5 Blazers going across the auction block, and seemingly all of them doing very well. The Ramcharger hasn’t quite taken off to the level of the Bronco and the Blazer, which may make it a sleeper on the marketplace today. It has all the same qualities from a design standpoint, with the added benefits of unkillable engines (the 318 or the 360) and Dodge was also pretty far ahead of its peers in terms of marketing its trucks to consumers via a variety of cosmetic upgrades, with packages offered under the “Adult Toys” option.

The Osborn Tramain YouTube channel features this Dodge Ramcharger launch video that shows how little this SUV changed in ten years:

The truck offered here is not exactly a high-option survivor, but it does present as a clean driver without any obvious flaws. The seller maintains it’s never left Florida, and while the southern sun can wreak havoc on vehicles, this Ramcharger has all the signs of being a carefully looked after vehicle, from the minty interior to the original two-tone paint job that looks surprisingly nice for being an unrestored truck. The listing confirms that the Dodge will come with records going back to new and that the paint is believed to be original. When you’re looking for a future investment-grade vehicle, beginning with a survivor that is loaded with original details along with a strong paper trail and low miles is a good place to start. The world of Broncos and Blazers has gone full-tilt crazy; maybe it’s time to get ahead of things for a change and slide into this beautiful Ramcharger.

Here’s the seller’s description:

“All original condition including the paint. This Ram has been in Florida its whole life. It has a 318 v8 with a automatic transmission. Starts right up with no issues. Interior is very clean with no rips. Clean carfax and never been in a accident. Original 68k miles with original paperwork from 1987 included and service records. I even have the original receipt when the truck was purchased new from the dealer.
