Although choked from the factory with a catalytic-converter-equipped single exhaust, one bright spot for the 1975 model year was the continued availability of the Oldsmobile’s Rocket 455 cubic inch V8 in the brand’s Cutlass Hurst/Olds W30 trim level. Add in the innovative swivel bucket seats and T-Tops and you have one of the more desirable personal luxury coupes of the mid-1970s. We just came across this all-white, driver-quality example originally listed in November 2021 on Craigslist in Norwood, Massachusetts (Boston) reported to be a California Blue plate car.
Currently offered at $17,900, comparing that price against the Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms the private seller has their Hurst/Olds priced six hundred dollars higher than this guide’s #3 “Good” estimate of $17,300. Similarly, the Collector Car Market Review Online Tool reveals the seller’s ask is $175 less than this guide’s #2 “Very Good” appraisal of $19,875.
By the early 1970s, the popularity of muscle cars declined as increasing insurance and decreased performance made the two-door personal luxury coupe a popular alternative. For the 1973 model year, General Motor’s launch of the “Colonnade” A-Body coupe versions of Buick’s Regal, Chevrolet’s Monte Carlo, Pontiac’s Grand Prix, and Oldsmobile’s Cutlass were all a perfect fit for that trend. The Oldsmobile’s Cutlass blend of luxury and styling was by far the most popular of them all. By 1975, the Cutlass was the most popular car sold in America.
Capitalizing on their success with the 442, Hurst continued to partner with Oldsmobile to offer the Hurst/Olds Sport Coupe. By 1975, this trim level package was based on the formal roofline Cutlass and was the first General Motors car to have a “Hurst/Hatch” removable T-Top style roof installed. 1975 versions were available in either black or white, with either a black or white half vinyl top offset by a wide aluminum band. The W-25 version, like the one featured here, came equipped with an Oldsmobile 350 engine. 1975 was the first year of federally mandated catalytic converters, so consequently, only a single exhaust was available. Hood mounted center louvers continued for 1975 while gold stripes adorned the sides of the car, as well as the trunk, hood, and mirrors. The car also carried gold 15″x7″ Super Stock III Oldsmobile rims. Interiors featured new reversible vinyl/velour seat cushions and backs for the all-vinyl swivel Strato bucket seats. The most popular interior color combination on ’75 Hurst/Olds was white seats and door panels, and black carpet, dashboard, steering wheel, and console.

This 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds W-30 is the big 455 V8 machine with a cool color combo, exclusive T-tops, and a ton of vintage style. So it’s the car you never saw coming, but after you dig into the details, you’ll realize it’s very worthy of putting some money into as it’s a solid investment.
The Hurst/Olds has been the awesome muscle car treat that ranked even above the 442 for many years, and the 1975 car was one of the most unique ever. It was a single-year design that traded in the Colonnade profile for a more formal roofline with a half vinyl top. But the real story was the T-tops that were exclusive to this gen’s year only. The recipe proved popular for its time. They sold 2,535 examples, and that was quite a bit for these expensive coupes back in 1975… but over 45 years later, you know it’s exceptionally rare to find one today. Especially this one with the 455 motor and the history that this car has. The paint is mostly original and the car exhibits battle scars BUT NO RUST as is SO common with these cars. The faded Hurst gold pinstripe kit shows off the straightness of the sheetmetal and the special louver trim hood. Even the Super Sport III wheels were specially painted which makes for quite a sharp-looking classic Olds.
When you have the roof open along with the doors, it makes for a terrific way to showcase those cool swiveling front bucket seats. The white upholstery even has the correct reversible inserts in the front buckets. It’s a largely stock and original style. There are a few well-placed upgrades to keep this a better cruiser, including an AM/FM radio and provisions for R134a air conditioning (updated and blows ICE COLD). You also have great factory features like power windows and a center console. As a true Hurst/Olds you have a driver-oriented machine. That’s why there’s the special Oldsmobile sports steering wheel on the tilt column, and the dash wraps around you. Plus, you have the hallmark Hurst dual gate shifter prominently in the center of the car. This particular car also is equipped with the VERY RARE H/O Digital Tachometer ahead of the shifter – try finding one of those!
The W30 designation has always been important to Oldsmobile, and this is no different. It means this one came optioned with the big 455 cubic-inch V8, and it’s great to have that numbers matching mighty displacement still under the hood today! Horsepower ratings were down in this era, but with this much size, you have a torque monster that has plenty of low-end muscle. It inhales deeply with a four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with a proper V8 tune from the now CAT LESS dual exhaust, she has a nice rumble – make sure to see the YouTuve video! The TH400 three-speed transmission is ideal for smooth shifting when you want easy driving and stout construction when you want to enjoy the dual-gate shifter. Add in power steering, power brakes, front discs, and a rear sway bar, and this rare Olds is also a terrific all-around driver. The rear gears are the standard 2:56’s.
The car could use some TLC if you’d like to take it to the next level, but that won’t stop you from enjoying it today. Remember ORIGINAL MEANS 46 YEARS OLD, and while al the mechanical aspects of the car are up to date and safe, the paint does have some flaws and visible checking, and there are dents and scuffs here and there. I recently found a 1975 Hurst olds w-30 car I was called to pick up for scrap but can’t bring myself to crush it , has 64,000 , black I got it to run but not sure what I want to do with it
