If you’re not familiar with Toly Arutunoff, he’s a man’s man among enthusiasts who had the guts to pilot sports and racing cars in events such as the Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia when car racing was still a death sport. In addition to being a published author, he’s known for building a number of interesting one-off creations over the years, one of which we’re honored to feature on GuysWithRides.com!
One day in his travels, Toly came across a 1949 Chevrolet Fleetline fastback. It reminded him of Bentley’s S1 Continental Fastback produced a few years year. Here is the rear three-quarters view of each car; you be the judge:
Now on a mission, Toly set out to modify a ’49 Chevrolet Fleetline as a tribute to the Bentley Boy’s creation. The result was what he calls the Straightly Incontinental currently listed for sale. This is a driver-quality one-off creation in need of freshening to make road worthy. The result is what you see here:
While the exterior paint can best be described as driver-quality, besides the modified hood and grille featuring a Bentley grille, the diamond-pleated, cream and white two-tone interior are really set the Straightly Incontinental from its humble ’49 Chevy Fleeline Fastback beginnings. The drivetrain remains the stock inline-six and “three-on-the-tree” powertrain with the primary upgrade being a modern alternator supporting 12v wiring. Options real Bently Continental Fastback owners can only dream about are the bespoke hubcaps featuring “$” insignias combined with a rare, rough-hewn pine stick hood support.
The pre-purchase inspection confirmed this is a driver-quality project car in need of sorting before being road-ready again.
