Triumph introduced its radical wedge-shaped TR7 in 1975 in coupe form only under the misguided notion the U.S. market would soon outlaw convertibles. When that didn’t happen, Triumph launched a more traditional roadster version.  Enthusiasts criticized the TR7 for being underpowered so to address it, Triumph introduced the TR8 in 1980, which was a TR7 powered by the aluminum Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac 215-cubic inch aluminum V-8. Unfortunately, Triumph was out of business by 1981 with only 2,700 TR8s built, making the example presented much more desirable over its more pedestrian TR7 sibling.

The current caretaker of the past fifteen years reports his rare TR8 has been restored with an upgraded canvas top, reupholstered seats with matching doors, and a repaint using a beautiful shade of Atlantic Blue.  Under the hood, the Buick-designed 3.5L aluminum V8 sports an Eldebrock intake topped with a Holley 390 cfm four-barrel carburetor. Starting the V8 is made easy with an MSD ignition upgrade while a pair of headers feed the hot exhaust gases into a true dual exhaust system. As the undercarriage pictures confirm, this TR8 is highly detailed and features a rust-free body.
