June 16, 2022, Update – We confirmed the seller of this “Classifind” deleted their listing, so we’re now able to call this one “SOLD!” While this one got away, please reach out either by email or call us directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

The son of the original owner is selling this grand dame of a luxury sedan, and it appears to be one of the nicest ones left. This 1987 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is an iconic luxury car, but too often they appear as tired land yachts overloaded with complicated technology and high-end finishes that don’t respond well to neglect. So when an example appears as this one did in May 2022 on Craigslist in Seattle, Washington, it’s pretty hard to ignore. The paintwork is excellent, the interior is mint, and the mileage is low at just 73,000, all for an asking price of $20,000. Comparing that price against the Classic.com model guide seemingly indicates the seller is asking a fair price, with an average recorded sale price of $27,689, but with a most recent sale of $11,500, it’s not exactly a hot market for an old Silver Spur:

All too often, enthusiasts seem to write off big luxury sedans as viable collector cars, or at least as weekend cruisers worth owning. Part of it is just the image – who wants a stodgy old four-door – but I suspect more of it has to do with the fact that so many of these 80s luxury icons have been neglected for so long that they’re simply not worth owning at any price. The Silver Spur shown here may be one of the best, and at $20,000, that’s pretty darn affordable when you compare it to, say, owning the best Porsche 928 or Acura NSX. And given much of the rad era appeal is rooted in an image rather than the actual driving experience, it would seem that a car like the Rolls Royce would be a logical choice for a local car show focused on 80s icons rather than the typical hot hatch from the same era. And if you already have a sports car in the garage, a comfortable land yacht is a logical next step, especially one that is loaded with Britain’s finest carpets and wood trim.

The Men & Motors YouTube Channel provides a vintage road test of the four-inch short version of the Rolls Royce Silver Spur, the Silver Spirit:

The seller indicates this particular Rolls Royce has been in the family since new, belonging to his father up until Alzheimer’s took over his life and made driving impossible. Despite this, the family has continued their stewardship of dad’s pride and joy, making sure to run the car every few days and also keep up with the maintenance. This includes $7,000 worth of engine servicing over the last three years alone, which covered a water pump replacement, valve cover gasket, new front and rear main seals, brake booster, plugs and wires, and a new oil level transmitter. As you read through the listing, it becomes clear the seller and his brother grew up around this car, and with anecdotal mentions of how the back seat has barely been used and the white-wall tires are in excellent shape, you can see how their father likely pointed out the same features to them when they were kids. The photos don’t lie, as the interior and exterior condition does appear to be terrific, with the thick red carpeting presenting particularly well inside and the exterior paintwork gleaming despite the photos being taken on a cloudy day. Would you take on the challenge of maintaining a needy luxury car like this in exchange for likely having one of the best in existence?
