1989 Chevrolet Corvette – SOLD FOR $14,000

July 16, 2022 Update – The private seller just communicated he sold his Corvette locally for $14,000. While we could not get the right bidders for this auction, we thank the seller for the opportunity, and we wish the new owner well with this C4.

June 22, 2022 Update – The high bid of $5,000 did not meet the seller’s reserve price of $14,900 so we’ve moved this 1989 Corvette to our “Rides Still Available” Page.  Once registered and logged in, select the green “Buy Now” option to agree to pay the “Buy Now” price of $14,900

GuysWithRides.com is proud to offer this 44K original mile, Dark Red Metallic over Saddle leather, 1989 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible in an online, reserve-style auction on behalf of the current caretaker.

Bidding opened Wednesday, June 8, 2022, and will run for fourteen (14) consecutive days ending at 7:00 PM Eastern time on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Guys With Rides followers likely recognize this car from its original auction in early March of 2022. We agree with the seller’s assertion that the original auction’s timing may have been a bit early, so we’re relisting this beautiful C4 now that top-down weather has finally arrived in the Midwest.

This Corvette currently resides in the Chicago suburbs just minutes from O’Hare International Airport.

1989 Chevrolet Corvette – SOLD FOR $14,000

Introduced for the 1984 model year, Chevrolet engineers made incremental improvements in all areas. For 1988, engineers revised the front and rear suspension geometry, installed bigger brakes, upgraded the engine, and now offered optional seventeen-inch wheels and tires. Comfort and convenience also improved with a host of minor changes that included a quieter and lighter air-conditioning compressor, an improved ventilation system, and the addition to the standard-equipment list of power locks, cruise control, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo system.

Small by today’s ridiculous rubber-band-sideway standards, the 1998 Corvette was one of the first cars to feature seventeen-inch wheels shod with a wider, lower-profile 275/40ZR-17 Goodyear Eagles. Supporting the larger wheels was a revised suspension that featured redesigned control arms, hubs, pickup points, shock mounts, and spring and anti-roll-bar links. While they were at it, Corvette engineers upgraded the brakes with new two-piston calipers up front, slightly thicker calipers, and larger brake pads that combined to increase resistance to fade.

The latest version of the fuel-injected, 5.7-liter V-8 benefits from freer-flowing ports, aluminum heads, and a revised camshaft increased horsepower from 230 to 245.  Equipped with the four-speed automatic transmission and the optional 3.07:1 axle ratio Corvettes were now capable of 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds on their way to a 154-mph top speed.

For the 1989 model year, there were two big updates.  A new Getrag-developed six-speed manual transmission replaced the Doug Nash “4+3” unit.  For the first time since the Chevrolet launched the C4 convertible in 1986, 1989 Corvette ragtop buyers could opt for an optional hardtop for $1,995. Developed by American Sunroof Company (“ASC”), the fiberglass design became an integral part of the Corvette’s body structure with nine bolts needed to hold it into place. The design was strong enough to meet federal rollover standards for fixed-roof cars and improved hard-top-equipped convertible body’s torsional rigidity to be fifteen percent stiffer than the coupe’s.

Robert, the current caretaker of this 1989 Corvette convertible, found the car sale by the second owner over the winter in northern Wisconsin. under his ownership, he has detailed the car and is in the process of replacing the original sun visors with matching Chevrolet-sourced new units.

  1. 1989 Chevrolet Corvette – SOLD FOR $14,000

What is the reserve amount for the vehicle? I’d like to bid but if 1,500 isn’t the reserve amount, I would like to know before I place a bid so I can bid accordingly. Looking to get this car for my old man and just want to see how much is the lowest you’ll take.

Like any auction, we cannot divulge the reserve price. We do, however, provide a “Reserve Meter” on the bid page that provides a visual representation of how close the current high bid is to the reserve price.
