Like it or not, short-wheelbase school buses get a bad rap for various reasons. However, this 1964 Dodge Short Bus, originally listed in June 2022 on Craigslist in Weare, New Hampshire, is doing its part to break that stigma. The first thing you notice is how the owner painted “Cool Bus” between the front roof signals.  Mechanically sorted, the seller reports their bus made a cross-country trip from Oregon to New Hampshire, never exceeding its top speed of only 55 miles per hour. Last used for a traveling plant business, the interior is passenger-seat-free, leaving the next caretaker open to converting this Shirt Bus to any way they see fit.

Currently offered for $12,500 As a second data point, the  Collector Car Market Review Online Tool reveals the seller’s ask falls between this guide’s #3 “Good” estimate of $9,125 and its #2 “Very Good” appraisal of $14,525 for typical Dodge Utiline trucks on which this school bus is based upon.

The saftlinerc2 YouTube Channel is run by a young man enamored with school buses.  In this video, he highlighted this same Dodge Short Bus for sale in June when the seller wanted $14,500 at the time:

Knowing this 1964 Dodge D400-based school bus made a cross-country trip with its 318 V8-based power train should give potential buyers the confidence to focus on converting this vintage bus to whatever they want it to be.

Here’s the seller’s original description:

“I have for sale a very unique running driving short bus it is 19 feet in total length this bus not long ago was purchased in California where it was decommissioned for public school use in 1986 then purchased years later and brought to Oregon where it was overhauled about new tires tubes brakes clutch master brake master carburetor Engine reseal radiator and fluids I have lots of literature and receipts totaling up to roughly $8000 was driven from Oregon two years ago to New Hampshire Only does 55 mph and then purchased by a lady who used it for a traveling plant business which happens to be on an episode of Chronicle on WMUR there are no seats inside this could be a conversation piece for your business or a business.
