Ironically nicknamed “Square Bodies” today, Chevrolet called its third generation of C/K trucks introduced in 1973 the “Rounded Line” as their new truck featured many radius details not traditionally seen on pickup trucks up to that point. Rounded details included: windshield corners, cab roof corners, door frames that cut high into the cab roof, slanted front fenders, and rounded pickup box corners. Production of third-generation C/K’s lasted through the 1987 model year with only minor changes. Despite all of the modern features, Chevrolet continued to offer the option of wood-planked floors in either Stepside or Fleetside bed configurations.
For 1977, the front fascia underwent a second revision, with Chevrolet and GMC receiving larger-segment grille designs. On all trims, the interior received revised door panels (covering a larger portion of the doors). As an option, the C/K offered power windows and power door locks for the first time. 1977 was the last year for the exposed passenger side fuel cap; later Square Body models feature a fuel door instead.
The private seller reports he and his team just completed a full restoration of this 1977 Chevrolet K20. The K20 designation identifies two facts about this truck. The “K” confirms this truck features four-wheel drive, while the “20” means this is a 3/4 ton truck. Not only is the eight-foot-long bed a rare option on K20 pickups, but this example also features freshly-installed oak plank flooring with a very nice finish. The seller reports this freshly restored truck features its numbers-matching 350/Automatic powertrain. We have more details very soon, so stay tuned!
The LemonSquad Pre-Purchase Inspection (“PPI”), completed several days before this auction, confirmed this 1977 Chevrolet K20 Cheyenne is a nicely restored 4×4 long bed pickup with several minor items needing attention noted in the report. I drove a lot of these as company vehicles in my younger years and I have to think its not the 8′ bed that is rare, but the wood flooring. I’m not sure you could get a c20 or k20 in anything but an 8′ bed.
