Chrysler used the Newport brand name for both a hardtop body designation and also for its lowest-priced model between 1961 and 1981. Chrysler first used the Newport name on a 1940 show car, of which five vehicles were produced. The Newport continued the tradition of a large, comfortable luxurious coupe and sedan while offering a modestly priced product compared to the Chrysler New Yorker and Chrysler Imperial.
The fifth-generation Newport received a complete redesign for 1969 that featured the distinctive “Fuselage Styling” that would become symbolic of Chrysler’s full-size cars until the end of the 1973 model year. Although retaining the same 124-inch wheelbase it shared with the premium New Yorker, this generation Newport was longer, lower, wider, and several hundred pounds heavier than the fourth-generation cars it replaced.
Although still offered in 2-door and 4-door hardtop, 2-door convertible, and 4-door sedan models, station wagons were no longer part of the Newport series, as the Town & Country became a separate model outright. Newport convertibles were discontinued after 1970. Available in 2- and 4-door hardtops and 4-door sedans, the Newport Custom would still be offered as the top-line Newport through the entire 1969–1973 design cycle. For 1972, the Custom was standard with the 190 horsepower 400 cubic inch (6.6 L) V8.
The original owner purchased this very car in 1973 and has only managed to add 40,395 miles on the car since that time. When first purchased, he had the car undercoated. That preventative measure combined with fastidious care helped this Newport remain in survivor condition all that time.
We are in the process of completing a pre-purchase inspection and will post it shortly.

THAT is a beautiful car!
Mik G, take a look at all of the pictures I took earlier today. The added bonus is this Newport is a factory A/C car!
Beautiful! Sure wish there had been a 400/4bbl option in ’73.
Josh, we will have the walk-around and driving video posted before the start of this car’s auction on Wednesday, June 1st, but even with just the two-barrel, this Newport has power.
Hi, great looking car!!
Could storage for a couple of months be arranged if bidding is successful? Everything prepaid of course.. we would take the car on US road-trip and take it home to Sweden afterwards. Mats crazy Swede
We’re jealous of what a great car this Newport would be to take on a US Road trip! Yes, I think the seller might be open to doing that for you if it is set up properly.
