This rare one-year-only Grand Cherokee currently resides in Chaska, Minnesota, a short drive from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.

Jeep produced its highly successful “ZJ” Grand Cherokee from 1993 through 1998. For the final model year, Jeep offered the high-performance 5.9L Limited to keep sales strong before its replacement entered production.  Having more luxury and performance than regular Limited, nearly fifteen thousand of the approximately one-quarter million Grand Cherokees produced that year ended up being 5.9 Limited models.  In addition to the luxury features, Jeep stuffed Chrysler’s 245 horsepower 5.9 Liter Magnum V8 of the time under the hood.  With 345 pound-feet of torque on hand,  Grand Cherokee 5.9’s were capable of 0-60 mile per hour times of about seven seconds, putting it on par with some sports cars of the day.  Credited as the first high-performance SUV ever offered, Chrysler advertised the model as “The Fastest SUV In The World,” It was named the 1998 four-wheel drive vehicle of the year by Petersen’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine.

Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limiteds typically came from the factory loaded with options, and the example featured here is no exception.  Options include Quadratrac all-wheel drive, power windows, power door locks, dual power front seats, an overhead console, keyless entry, moon roof, roof rack, cruise control, deluxe leather interior, and Infinity sound system.

The 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited featured here is currently being offered by the estate of the deceased third owner. The seller reports the Jeep’s body is in average condition with some spot touch-up repairs and visible scratches. The paint on the car is finished in Deep Slate Pearl Coat. This truck should be considered a respectable driver-quality finish. The seller notes their ZJ has the typical rust found on the lower edge of the liftgate and the undercarriage. None of the rust affects the structure.

The seller reports their Grand Cherokee’s Agate leather interior is in good usable condition. The dashboard is in excellent shape with no cracks. All door panels and wood grain are excellent. Leather seats are all in very good shape for their age, with no rips. They also report the interior mechanics can be a bit fussy. For example, the door locks work some days but can be manually locked. The front power passenger window also tends to work intermittently.

Mechanically, this ZJ features its original 5.9L V8 with 184,861 well-maintained miles that starts right up. Recent repairs include a new transmission, a new radiator, a fresh tuneup, and an oil change.  The seller states their Grand Cherokee also features a new windshield, Jeep fog lamps, and an aftermarket three-inch lift kit.
