This 1956 Pontiac Star Chief resides in Knightdale, North Carolina, as part of a private collection.

The Deets

Pontiac used the “Star Chief” brand new across six generations spanning 1954 and 1966. The first generation lasted only one model year (1954) as Pontiac’s top trim model.  1955 saw Pontiac launch a completely redesigned full-size lineup featuring Pontiac’s new Strato Streak V-8 power. Built on the same chassis as Chevrolet’s 150/210/Bel Air line,  1955 Pontiacs featured two wide “Silver Streaks” running the length of the hood. The hood ornament “Indian” was amber plastic lit up when the headlights were turned on.  For 1956 the design was lightly revised, with heavier-looking bumpers and a vertical slash on the front door above the swage line.

The seller notes their Star Chief now features a 301 cubic inch Pontiac V8 mated to a TurboHydramatic 350 automatic transmission.  We will have more details about this classic Pontiac by Thursday, May 4, so please check back soon!
