June 16, 2023 Update – One week after first posting a Craigslist ad for their 38K-mile ’89 IROC-Z, the seller replaced that listing with a fresh one.  While the pictures and description remain the same, they lowered their asking price from $25,900 to $23,700.

The third-generation Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z is the most mocked car from the Rad Era (1980-1999). Stereotypes can be put aside.

This third-generation Camaro shows how well car makers recovered from the Malaise era, an era of poor performance. Equipped with a 5.7L V8 these are capable and great sounding performers. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find unmodified, survivor-quality examples of all generations of Camaros. These examples become harder to find and add to your collection as time passes.

This bronze 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z, last spotted for sale in June 2023 on Craigslist in Tucson, Arizona, is a viable candidate. This IROC-Z has only 38,000 original miles. It is an amazing find for someone who wanted to buy it in the 1980s but didn’t have the money.

Last offered for $25,900, Classic.com confirms that the asking price is slightly lower than the one-year rolling average of the guide’s summary.

As a second data point, the  Collector Car Market Review Online Tool reveals the seller’s ask lands above this guide’s #1 “Excellent” appraisal of $20,550 before factoring in adjustments for the 5.7L engine and other options.

Transmission and Drivetrain: The 1989 Camaro IROC-Z was available with a choice of two transmissions. The standard option was a 5-speed manual transmission, allowing drivers to engage with the car’s performance fully.

Optionally, buyers could select a 4-speed automatic transmission, which provided convenient and smooth gear changes. Power was sent to the rear wheels, creating a rear-wheel-drive setup. This setup improved the Camaro’s dynamic handling.

Interior: Inside the IROC-Z, the focus was on driver-centric design and comfort. The cabin featured supportive and bolstered bucket seats that provided a secure and comfortable seating position. The interior upholstery options ranged from cloth to leather, depending on the buyer’s preference.

The dashboard design was simple and functional, with a clear instrument cluster that provided vital information to the driver. Standard features included power windows, power locks, air conditioning, and a premium audio system, offering a pleasant driving experience.

Legacy and Impact: The 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z was highly regarded for its performance capabilities and aggressive styling. It was popular among car enthusiasts and enjoyed success both on the streets and at the racetrack.

The IROC-Z package increased the Camaro’s recognition as a performance symbol. It highlighted its connection to the International Race of Champions racing series. The third-generation Camaros were very important to the revival of the muscle car segment during the 1980s and early 1990s. The IROC-Z was one of these models.

Overall, the 1989 Chevrolet IROC Z28 Camaro was a powerful and stylish performance car that combined sleek looks with impressive performance. Its design, engine, and features made it a desirable choice. It offered an exhilarating driving experience.

Hi Todd, candidly with GuysWIthRides.com not growing as quickly as we had hoped and with a lack of sold auction cars, we had to cut back on having guest Editors like Jeff.
