41 Months Gone: 1972 Corvette 454/Auto One Owner 17K Mile – Sold?

Aug 2023 | Craigslist ClassiFINDS, Sports Car Saturday

September 29, Update – While this “ClassiFIND” expired recently, given the seller’s history, we suspect it may not actually be sold yet.  For now, we’re labeling this ride “Sold?” However, we will keep an eye out for an updated listing. In the interim, please reach out either by email or call Rudy directly if you’d like to be informed when we come across something similar.

August 13, 2023 Update – After a brief pause following the expiration of their June 2023 Craigslist ad, the seller of this one owner, 17K mile 1972 Corvette survivor, posted a fresh listing.  The description, pictures, and eighty large asking price all remain the same.

August 5, 2023, Update – While this “Classifind” expired recently, given the seller’s history, we suspect it may not actually be sold yet.  For now, we’re labeling this ride “Sold?” However, we will keep an eye out for an updated listing.

June 23, 2023 Update – The Internet and GuysWithRides never forget an interesting classic for sale.  Thirty-nine months have passed since we last came across a listing for this well-optioned, 454-powered, 1972 Corvette Coupe offered by the original owner. When we first came across this Corvette at the height of the pandemic in March 2020, the original owner listed it for $111,000, then quickly changed it to a still eye-watering $85,000. Fast-forward three years and three months, and the original owner now asks $80,000. While we hope he can find a buyer on Craigslist, that kind of ask typically requires auctioning the car.

March 2020 UpdateWe confirmed the listing for this “Classifind” expired, so with no replacement found, we assume this ride is “Sold?” unless we come across a replacement ad.

You demand the best, money is no object, and you don’t care how much you must pay to get it.  If that’s how you roll, then we may have found the C3 Corvette for you:  take a look at this 17-K original mile, Steel Cities Gray over Black Leather, 454 LS/automatic powered 1972 Corvette survivor for sale last offered by the original owner for $85,000 on Craigslist in Richboro, Pennsylvania in March 2020, but now listed for $80,000.  The Hagerty Insurance Online Valuation Tool confirms that a staggering asking price is just over $27,000 above the current #1 “Concours” estimate of $57,900.  Here’s the best part:  if you read the seller’s description, he did not update it and left the original asking price of $111,000.  Even if you’re Thurston Howell, based on Hagerty’s estimate that’s a risk of way overpaying, and for that, the original owner wins our “NEW!” (short for “No Effin Way!) Award.

Carrying the Gilligan’s Island theme from the “Ginger” Corvette featured elsewhere this Sports Car Saturday, this is the C3 you buy if money is no object, and only the best and most original will do.  Given the ridiculously low miles, the original owner purchased a well-optioned example and has gone to great lengths to preserve his car at the expense of rarely taking it out of his garage. While the original owner states “many trophies” have been won with his car, the pictures provided and the description below does not indicate his Corvette has been judged in the NCRS Corvette “Survivor” category, something that might help justify the asking price.  Good luck with the purchase!

This is the current seller’s uncapitalized description:

Here is a 17,430 documented miles, one owner, all original except tires and battery 1972 ls5 454 Corvette coupe. It is automatic, with power steering, windows, brakes, air conditioning, tilt telescopic steering wheel, and leather seats. the color is a rare original Steel Cities gray paint. If you want the best, this is a trophy winner. Seeing is believing. Thanks for reading.

Here’s the original owner’s uncapitalized description:

“Here is a new 1972 Chevrolet Corvette. Purchased 4/1/1972 from Headly Erwin Chevrolet. I am the original owner, a title. All documentation and then some. Window sticker, protecto plate, and tank sticker. battery replaced tires and brakes. Loaded, steel cities gray, pb, steering, air, tilt, am,fm, turbine wheel covers, leather, tinted glass, auto, and many trophies. This is a special car for a special person. A chance that only comes once. by the way, the price is $111,000, not $11,000. If you still see this ad then it’s still for sale. Thanks
