The 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary Edition is a special variant of the fourth-generation Camaro commemorating the 35th year of the Camaro’s production. The 2002 model year marked the fourth generation’s final year of production before Chevrolet temporarily discontinued the Camaro until its revival in 2010.
The 2002 Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary Edition featured a unique and eye-catching exterior appearance with several distinctive elements. It was available in either a hardtop coupe or a convertible body style. The exterior was adorned with a striking Bright Rally Red paint scheme, paying homage to the original Camaro’s iconic color. Silver racing stripes ran from the front bumper to the rear decklid to complement the paint, adding a sporty and nostalgic touch.
The 35th Anniversary Edition also came with exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels with a polished finish and a special “Z28 35th” emblem on the front fenders, distinguishing it from regular Camaro models. Additionally, it sported a more aggressive front fascia, incorporating unique grille inserts and fog lights.
Inside, the Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary Edition continued its celebratory theme with several special features and enhancements. The cabin showcased special white leather seating surfaces with embroidered “35th Anniversary” logos on the headrests. The white leather extended to the shift knob and steering wheel, creating a distinctive and stylish contrast with the dark dashboard and door panels.
Other notable interior features included brushed aluminum trim accents on the center console and door panels, creating a modern and upscale feel. The Camaro’s interior layout was driver-focused, emphasizing a sporty driving experience, and it was equipped with all the essential amenities of the time, such as power-adjustable seats, air conditioning, power windows, and a premium audio system.
The 2002 Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary Edition was a performance-oriented muscle car featuring a powerful engine and sport-tuned suspension. Under the hood, it housed a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine, which was capable of producing around 310 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque. This engine was mated to a standard 6-speed manual transmission, providing drivers with a true enthusiast driving experience. An optional “SS” performance package added an additional 25 horsepower, bumping total horsepower to 335 ponies.
The Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary Edition boasted a sports suspension setup, including upgraded springs, dampers, and stabilizer bars, improving handling and cornering performance. It was equipped with four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock functionality, ensuring effective stopping power and safety.
To maintain exclusivity and celebrate the milestone, Chevrolet limited the production of the 2002 Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary Edition. The car featured on auction is one of only 739 SS 6-Speed convertibles produced in Bright Rally Red.
Overall, the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 35th Anniversary Edition served as a fitting tribute to the Camaro’s heritage and a memorable send-off for the fourth-generation model. Its unique appearance, special interior features, and robust performance capabilities made it a sought-after collectible among Camaro enthusiasts and collectors alike.
