Ford introduced a redesigned, fifth-generation, S-197, Mustang for the 2005 model year. The fifth-generation Mustang’s styling echoes the fastback Mustang models of the late-1960s. Ford’s senior vice president of design, J Mays, called it “retro-futurism.” The fifth-generation Mustang was manufactured at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. Building on the success of earlier retro-themed modern Mustangs (think Bullitt and Mach 1 editions of the fourth generation), Ford and Carroll Shelby reconciled their decades-old differences to once again offer S-197-based Shelby Mustangs.

The result was the launch of the Ford Shelby GT.  Positioned between the 300-horsepower Mustang GT and the Ford-produced Shelby GT500, the Shelby GT featured a 319-horsepower version of Ford’s modular 4.6 Liter double overhead cam V8.  The Shelby GT was a unique model in that, just like the Shelby Mustangs of the 60s, the Shelby GT’s manufacturing was completed at Shelby Automobiles Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada, after being shipped directly there by Ford Motor Company. Shelby GTs were then sold pre-title to customers. By comparison, GT500 models were manufactured solely by Ford Motor Company in Flat Rock, Michigan.

The Ford Shelby Mustang GT/SC variant of the S-197 Shelby Mustang debuted for the 2007 model year at the requests of Shelby owners who wanted a more powerful version.  Shelby offered three different superchargers installed by Shelby Automobiles.  These include the Ford Racing Whipple and the rare Paxton superchargers. The car for sale here features the former.

The current caretaker reports their 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT/SC features approximately $22,000 in options installed at Shelby’s Las Vegas facility. The car’s exterior features black paint with silver stripes, while the driver and passenger enjoy a two-tone black and gray leather interior. This car features a Whipple supercharged 4.6-liter V8 mated with a five-speed manual transmission. Optional equipment includes a GT-H-style hood with hood pins, a rear spoiler, a Borla exhaust system, 20″ forged Shelby wheels, four-wheel Baer disc brakes, air conditioning, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an in-dash six-disc CD changer linked to aftermarket speakers.  This Shelby GT/SC has 12,600 miles and comes with a binder of historical documents, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.
