1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible For Sale

Certain cars leave an indelible mark on history in the automotive world, and the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible is undoubtedly one of them. Born out of a fierce rivalry with the Ford Mustang, the Camaro debuted in the late 1960s and quickly established itself as an American classic. The SS Convertible variant, in particular, holds a special place in the hearts of car enthusiasts for its combination of style, power, and open-top driving pleasure. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible and explore what makes it such an enduring icon.

Chevrolet introduced the Camaro line in the fall of 1966 as a response to the Ford Mustang’s immense popularity, which had dominated the pony car segment since its launch in 1964. The Camaro was GM’s answer and aimed to strike a balance between style, performance, and affordability. The 1967 model year marked the first full year of production for the Camaro, and it was offered in various trims and body styles, including the much-celebrated SS Convertible.

The 1967 Camaro SS Convertible exuded the era’s quintessential American muscle car aesthetics. Its long hood, short rear deck, and bold, aggressive front grille made a statement wherever it went. The convertible variant added an extra layer of allure, allowing drivers to experience the thrill of open-air motoring. The car featured an optional power-operated soft top that could be easily raised or lowered, transforming the Camaro from a sleek coupe to a sun-soaked cruiser in seconds.

What truly set the SS Convertible apart was its impressive powertrain options. Buyers could choose from a range of V8 engines, with the top-tier option being the mighty 396 cubic-inch V8. This engine, known as the L78, produced a staggering 375 horsepower, propelling the Camaro SS Convertible from 0 to 60 mph in just over six seconds—a remarkable feat for its time. The combination of a throaty exhaust note and the wind in your hair made every drive an exhilarating experience.

In addition to its straight-line speed, the 1967 Camaro SS Convertible was also lauded for its handling prowess. Its balanced chassis, responsive steering, and well-tuned suspension allowed drivers to enjoy twisty backroads as much as highway cruising. The SS package further enhanced performance with features like heavy-duty suspension components and beefier brakes, ensuring that the Camaro delivered both in terms of power and control.

The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible left an indelible mark on the automotive landscape. It not only competed with the Mustang but also set the stage for a long-lasting rivalry that continues to this day. The Camaro’s success in the 1960s laid the foundation for subsequent model generations, each offering improved performance, technology, and design.

Today, the ’67 Camaro SS Convertible remains a highly sought-after collector’s item. Restored examples fetch premium prices at auctions and are cherished by enthusiasts worldwide. Its timeless design and the raw power of its V8 engine continue to captivate new generations of car enthusiasts, proving that true classics never go out of style.

The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible is a testament to the golden era of American pony cars. Its blend of iconic design, powerful engines, and top-down driving pleasure solidified its place in automotive history. Whether you’re a collector, a classic car enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates a beautiful piece of automotive history, the ’67 Camaro SS Convertible symbolizes an era when American automakers were at the peak of their performance and design prowess. It’s a reminder that some cars are more than just transportation—they are rolling works of art and a source of endless fascination for future generations.

While first-generation Camaros in stock form provided decent performance and handling for the late 1960s, many enthusiasts long for the classic looks of the first-generation F-Bodies combined with modern performance, reliability, and comfort features.  That’s what the previous owner and builder of this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible set out to do when they decided to give their car the full-blown restomod treatment. Check out the highlighted features of this 1967 Camaro SS convertible for sale at auction:

The current caretaker purchased this 1967 Camaro SS convertible restomod in 2019 and has thoroughly enjoyed the car ever since. The current caretaker has not just enjoyed the car during her ownership but has made a number of improvements. The most notable is the replacement of the stock-looking vinyl interior with a custom Alcantara diamond-pleated leather cockpit featuring red seat accents with contrasting stitching. A custom console featuring both front and rear cup holders added a dash of modern convenience. All of the interior components replaced during the upgrade will be included as part of the sale.

During the interior upgrade, the current caretaker replaced the oversized kick panel speaker enclosures with shallower units to improve the foot well room.  While this Camaro SS Restomod once featured side exiting exhaust, the seller upgraded the exhaust with a true-dual, rear-exiting system.

In the spirit of full transparency, the seller notes that the tires are approximately six years old, so buyers should plan to replace the tires.  She also notes that the original convertible boot can be difficult to install if not “pre-heated” in the sun first.
