Here is our very own Rudy and his take on this all-black 1998 Cadillac DeVille offered on GuysWithRides:

“This seventh-generation, front-wheel-drive, Northstar-powered Cadillac DeVille has a soft spot in my heart as a family relative owned a similar model that proved to be a very reliable and comfortable highway cruiser for her.  I found every accessory, including the factory air conditioning, to work properly during my inspection.  As my detailed pictures illustrate, the interior is in like-new condition, and the exterior features only minor blemishes.  It’s hard to believe this low-mileage survivor DeVille is 25 years old, but that qualifies it to be a great touring car for Antique Automobile Club of America (“AACA”) touring and judging events.”

The 1998 Cadillac DeVille, a flagship model of the renowned American luxury carmaker, marked an era when the Cadillac name was synonymous with elegance, opulence, and a smooth, comfortable ride. As the last generation of DeVilles to carry the traditional “DeVille” moniker, this full-sized luxury sedan became a symbol of American automotive excellence.

The Cadillac DeVille has been a prominent name in the Cadillac lineup for decades, with the first DeVille rolling off the production line in the early 1950s. Throughout its history, the DeVille was known for its combination of powerful engines, innovative technology, and sumptuous comfort. By the time the 1998 model year came around, the DeVille was a well-established symbol of luxury and refinement in the American automobile industry.

The 1998 Cadillac DeVille was the embodiment of classic American luxury. It featured a bold, stately design with smooth, aerodynamic lines and a prominent grille that bore the iconic Cadillac emblem. Its clean, uncluttered profile characterized the body, making a statement of timeless elegance.

The DeVille’s exterior details were tasteful, with chrome accents highlighting the car’s prestigious aura. Chrome trim along the beltline and rear fenders added a touch of sophistication to the design. The car rode on 16-inch aluminum wheels, which complemented its upscale appearance.

Inside the 1998 DeVille, you were greeted with an interior that truly lived up to the Cadillac name. Plush leather seats provided excellent support and comfort for both the driver and passengers. Woodgrain accents and a leather-wrapped steering wheel added an extra layer of refinement.

One of the defining features of the DeVille was its spaciousness. The rear seat provided ample legroom and headroom, ensuring a comfortable experience for passengers, and the trunk was vast, allowing for generous storage capacity. The attention to detail in the cabin, from the soft-touch materials to the ergonomically designed controls, reflected Cadillac’s commitment to luxury.

The 1998 Cadillac DeVille was powered by a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine, a hallmark of the DeVille’s performance. This engine produced 275 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, which was ample for a car of its class. The Northstar V8 was known for its smooth and refined power delivery, offering brisk acceleration and relaxed cruising.

The DeVille’s drivetrain featured a front-wheel-drive layout, which contributed to a stable and predictable driving experience. A four-speed automatic transmission made gear changes seamless, and the suspension system provided a comfortable and composed ride. The optional Continuously Variable Road Sensing Suspension (CVRSS) enhanced the car’s ride quality by adjusting to real-time road conditions.

Safety was a priority for the 1998 Cadillac DeVille. It came equipped with dual front airbags, side-impact airbags for both the driver and front passenger, anti-lock brakes, and traction control. These safety features, combined with the car’s substantial size and solid construction, made the DeVille one of the safest vehicles on the road at the time.

The 1998 Cadillac DeVille, with its classic American luxury and emphasis on comfort and refinement, left an enduring legacy in the automotive world. While the name “DeVille” would be replaced by “DTS” in subsequent generations, the spirit of the DeVille lived on in Cadillac’s commitment to building world-class luxury cars.

The 1998 DeVille appealed to a wide range of customers, from discerning executives who appreciated its comfort and prestige to retirees who embraced its spaciousness and serene ride. This versatility and broad appeal contributed to DeVille’s ongoing popularity.
