Backdating refers to modifying a car with an earlier version of stock components to make the ride look older than it really is.  Classic cars with long model lives are great candidates.  Two popular candidates for the backdating treatment include the 1975-1980 MGBs (owners replace the ugly black safety bumpers with proper chrome steel units) and air-cooled 911 Porsches.

So, while backdating is a very popular technique, going the other direction is much rarer. Generally, enthusiasts backdate their rides to the simpler lines of pre-Malaise Era bumpers.  The builder and seller of this blue 1975 Chevrolet K5 Blazer for sale, last spotted on Craigslist in Centerville, Utah (Salt Lake City) in October 2023, decided to take a different direction by forward dating his 1975 Blazer with a 1989 front clip.

Chevrolet produced the third-generation “Rounded Line” C/K light truck range from 19734 through 1991 with very few cosmetic changes.  This wide range of production facilitates owners of these vehicles to bolt on the front clip of their choice over a weekend. In the case of this K5, the seller (or maybe a prior owner?) replaced their Blazer’s original 1975 single round headlight front end with a dual square headlight front clip donated from a 1989 Square Body. As far as we’re concerned, it updates this Blazer very nicely.
