November 18, 2023 Update – We noticed the seller of this ’77 Toyota FJ40 we first spotted on November 11 deleted that Craigslist ad and replaced it with a fresh listing. The description, pictures, and price all carry over.
Suppose you watched our 2023 Halloween Video about the Top 3 Classic Cars To Help You Survive The Zombie Apocalypse. In that case, you already know that Toyota’s FJ40 received an honorable mention, especially in diesel form, as a dependable rig that can run almost anywhere on used cooking oil if needed. The problem is that very few diesel-powered FJ40s were sold in the U.S. Consequently, many vintage examples imported here that feature the desirable diesel engine also tend to feature right-hand drive.
This light orange 1977 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser Diesel for sale, last spotted in November 2023 on Craigslist in Vancouver, Washington, is a left-hand-drive model featuring Toyota’s robust 3B inline-four diesel engine with only 75,000 original miles. A rust-free driver quality example, this FJ40 appears to have received a repaint at some point, as there seems to be an amateur-quality repair to the lower section of this Landcruiser’s driver’s door. The other extensive pictures illustrate an excellent undercarriage to offset what is likely a “twenty-footer” exterior respray.
The seller also refers to their Landcruiser as a “BJ40” when our understanding is that this vintage was known as the “FJ40.” If a knowledgeable reader can clarify who is right on this, please comment below to let us know!

The seller provides this walk-around video of their 1997 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser Diesel for sale:
While this 1977 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser Diesel appears to be a very solid, rust-free candidate underneath, it’s clear from the pictures provided this example received a repaint at some point. What’s disturbing is the obvious bondo in the driver’s door. The seller says their Fj40 features “a little filler here and there,” so we would want to inspect this example in person to understand the extent of the filler used.
