“Cancel Culture” is not new, especially in the automotive world.  Looking back, many car designs were “Canceled” by the automotive press over the years.  Notable examples include Chrysler’s Airflow and Ford’s Edsel. However, arguably the most canceled car in automotive history has to be Chevrolet’s answer to the Volkswagen Beetle, the air-cooled Corvair. While most models of first-generation Corvairs sold successfully from 1960 through 1964, Ralph Nader’s infamous book, Unsafe at Any Speed, combined with the launch of Ford’s Mustang in 1965, killed sales of the sportier Corvair models virtually overnight.

Our latest find is this Black over Red 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible for sale, first spotted in November 2023 on Craigslist in Harleysville, Pennsylvania (Philadephia). Reported to be a 57K mile survivor, the seller notes that in addition to being family-owned for the past 35 years, this Corvair benefits from a “reconditioning” by Proper Noise. If you’re unfamiliar with the company, they are a well-respected restoration shop in nearby Reading, Pennsylvania. You’ll have to interview the seller a bit more over the phone to understand the extent of the reconditioning.
